The Fish Gate- the Source of Food

The sons of Hassenaah built the Fish Gate. They built it with beams and installed its doors, bolts, and bars. Next to them Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, made repairs. Beside them Meshezabel, made repairs. Beside them Zadok son of Baana made repairs. Beside them the Tekoites made repairs, but their nobles did not lift a finger to help their supervisors. Nehemiah 3:3-5

The Fish Gate received its name because of the fish markets nearby. To me they are the door by which the food comes. Let there be food in the house! The people of God feed on the Word of God. This is an important gate. It has structure, strength and respect. It is supported by the walls and the work on the walls were done by repairers.

To me this symbolises the preachers and teachers of the word supported by those who repair the body, the pastors. All are needed and those that do the work of the ministry are required to be dedicated.

Note the workers are named for what they contribute. The nobles from the Tekonites are forever named as the infamously proud men who refused to submit and become involved. This is sad because  they are leaders. When your parents fail to submit to the gospel it is a burden of shame to bear. No family needs to bear such shame.

I pray God's mercy and grace on families caught in infamy, have mercy Lord. Amen!
