What Does God Want?

The word of the Lord came to Zechariah: the Lord of hosts says this: make fair decisions. Show faithful love and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or fatherless, the foreigner or the poor, and do not plot evil in your hearts against one another. Zechariah 7:8-10

The people had come to inquire of the Lord if they still needed to fast as they had for the last 70 years. The Lord said, " was it really for Me that you fasted? Do you really eat and drink for Me?" In the above scripture He plainly tells them He would rather that they were truthful, merciful, loving and kind to one another, to the poor and the stranger.

Last night I needed a friend to share my time of grieving. I had received word that a dear friend had died from bowel cancer. As is my usual slow processing, I had received the news Sunday but it did not hit me until Monday and then I knew I needed to take time to remember, cry and move on. I messaged a reasonably new friend from church and she came over with flowers. She knew how to share the moment with me. I was grateful.

I am grateful for friends. I received several phone calls from friends who knew the man who died and we talked. My greatest joy is in having known this man but also that he was now with the One I love. What an awesome experience that would be.

Tonight I was at a church meeting and find that I am now making more friends, perhaps is it is because I am now free of my past. Freedom is wonderful. Amen!
