The Kingdom of God
At that time the disciples came to Him and asked, "Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?"
He called a little child and had him stand among them. He said to them: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself like this child will be greatest in the Kibgdom of Heaven."
Matthew 18:1-4
Our life goals seem to be to learn more and become clever. Yet we an be so clever that we miss the Kingdom of Heaven. Being self-sufficient is not where humility lies. Humility lies in knowing you are not clever or able and trusting the One who is.
Having just spent a few days with grandchildren I watched how, from very young, the goal seems to be, 'I can do that myself.' I am now visitng my mother in Newcastle and am watching the, 'Can you help me with this please,' attitude. Mum is becoming frail, after her operation last November her hair began to fall out. It is now growing again but it is light and fluffy, it reminds me of the first hair a child grows.
I delight in helping my grandchildren and my mother. Our God delights in being involved in our lives. We don't need to be independent but rather dependant on Him. Yesterday I drove 825km over about 10 hours to see my mother. I knew the strength was not my own. The Lord was with me. He wanted me to come.
My mother is enjoying my company, as I am hers. My God loves my company and I love His. This is what the Kingdom of God is about, relationship. Amen!
