The Alliance

The Gibeonites then sent word to Joshua  in the camp at Gilgal:"Do not abandon your servants, come up quickly and save us. Help us, because all the Amorites kings from the hill countries have joined forces against us." Joshua 10:6

The Gibeonites had previously saved their own lives by deceiving Joshua about their identity and now they were claiming his protection. Whilst they had caused their own problem they knew that forging an alliance with superior power would work in their favour.

Although Joshua had formed this alliance and not sought the Lord, the Lord was about to use the situation created and destroy the enemies of Israel. As Joshua goes out to defend the Gibeonites,  God speaks to him and tells him not to be afraid as He would give his enemies into his hand.

It is right to be afraid when you go out without seeking the Lord but He is good to use all things for His purposes. His kingdom purpose is far greater than we imagine. We see our little part but He handles the big picture. I am grateful that God accepts my repentance and is more interested in my heart than paying me back for my sin. That is man's way!
