The Best Gift

By faith Abel offered to God a better gift than Cain did. By faith he was approved as a righteous man, because God approved his gifts, and even though he is dead, he still speaks through his faith. Hebrews 11:4

The gifts we give and offerings we make can be made powerful through faith. I am sure Abel did not set out to offer a better gift than Cain, he just did because His gift was given with. Heart for his God, a desire to bless and please.

When we give birthday presents and they are merely something we like, without consideration for the recipient, then we are giving selfishly. Yet if we give, with the person in mind and love in out hearts, even if we do not know what to give we will surprise ourselves and the receiver with something special.

When I manage to do this it blesses me as well as the receiver. How good to be a blessings! On Sunday I conducted a Skate Park Day, it was called a fundraiser, but really the money raised was pitiful especially when you only sell sausages and bottles of water. Yet the participants in the day were gushing with thanks and praise. The day was for them, to make them know that they were important, they are a part of out community, just the same.

Abel considered God. God made the first animal sacrifice, perhaps Abel had learned about this. He obviously had a heart for God. What pleases Him? Find out and do it! Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
