Walk in rest
Therefore, while the promise to enter his rest remains, let us fear that none of you should miss it. For we have received the good news just as they (the children of Israel) did; but the message they heard did not benefit them, since they were not united with those who heard it in faith.
Therefore, a rest remains for God's people. For the person who has entered His rest has rested from his own works, just as God did from His. Let us then make every effort to enter that rest, so that noone will fall into the same pattern of disobedience. Hebrews 4:1,2; 9-11
These two passages warn us about unbelief and failure to enter God's rest. The Israelites, with the exception of Moses, Joshua and Caleb, and perhaps a few others, did not believe God was there for them and did not trust him to care for them in the promised land. Those who did not believed all died in the wilderness and 40 years later Joshua led the next generation in.
Unbelief, that inability or unwillingness to trust God for our now, results in a programme of works. If I am continually striving and struggling I am not believing that God has done it and gone before me. My Mantra is: 'It is to be, it is up to me!' This is wrong. If God is leading me, ahead of me and gone before me, He will drive out all my enemies.
God has entered his rest. Jesus has entered His rest. He said, 'it is finished!' If I am seated with Him in heavenly places then I too can enter my rest. Or more correctly, His rest.
My God is opening up new understanding for me, helping me to really enjoy ordinary folk. They are loved by Him because He is love, not because they are acceptable.
Today I spent the day with family farewelling my recent departed aunt. I got to know some lovely young people and as well visited with my cousins. I am in love with, in love with God's creatures.
Later this afternoon I had my nails done for an black tie dinner tomorrow night. I will be sitting on my hairdresser's table. I am excited because I am getting to know more people. I am not too fussed at going to such an event but am willing to meet more people.
My venture into helping Skaters get a new park is opening up a new world to me, ordinary folk who are nice to know.
Operate in the Lord's paddock, get to know those He is keen to know and love them, love them, love them. This is rest! Amen!
