Who Can Dwell Securely?
The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling seizes the ungodly: "Who among us can dwell with a consuming fire? Who can dwell with ever-burning flames?" The one who lives righteously and speaks rightly, who refuses gain from extortion, whose hand never takes a bribe, who stops his ears from listening to murderous plots and shuts his eyes to avoid endorsing evil- he will dwell on the heights; his refuge will be the rocky fortresses, his food provided, his water assured. Your eyes will see the King in His beauty; you will see a vast land. Isaiah 33:14-17
Again, Zion represents the church. Therefore those who choose sinful ways instead of the Lords ways will tremble, their outward circumstances will affect them greatly because they do not love the Lord or His ways.
However, the one who fears the Lord and honours His word, who walks in the spirit and not the flesh will dwell securely, he will dwell on the heights, his food provided, his water assured.
A heart full of sin cannot find peace in times of trouble, yet a heart set on God is at peace. He is our peace.
James tells us how to live: ' be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works- this person will be blessed in what he does. James 1:22,23
