The Lamp

Your eye is the lamp of the body. When your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light. But when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Take care then, that the light in you is not darkness. If, therefore, your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, it will be entirely illuminated, as when a lamp shines its light on you. Luke 11:34-36

Our eye is so important. What we see and allow affects us. What are you reading? Wha t are you watching? Are you enjoying seeing a couple commit adultery, why are you watching it? By watching it you give it authority to exist. If you are watching a man thieving from his employer or kill his family and neighbours, why are you watching that and calling it fun? 

If I am given a book and it errs into these areas, I put it down, not matter how new the book or how compelling the story. If there is foul language I put it down. If people post this sort of thing on Facebook, I hide it and eventually if they keep it up, we are friends no more. I once had a friend who hated the Liberal party and wrote horrible things. I challenged her and she told me, "If you don't like what I write, unfriend me". I did. I will not submit to filth and degradation and call it good.

My eye is important to me, I want it available to the Lord. My body is His temple and therefore His property. I have no right to go into your home and trash it, likewise I have no right to trash my body and my mind, they are not mine, they have been bought with the blood of the One who loves me.

I want light inside so that no evil thought or attitude can sneak in. I want to be full of His glory, for His purpose and His will.

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
