A New Day
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing spices they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb. They went in but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men stood by them in dazzling clothes. So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground.
"Why are you looking for the living among the dead? Asked the men, "He is not here, but has been resurrected!" Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee saying, "The Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day?" And they remembered His words.
Returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the Eleven and to all the rest. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and all the other women with them were telling the apostles these things. But these words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe the women. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. When he stooped to look in, he saw only the linen cloths. So he went home amazed at what had happened. Luke 24:1-12
I wake early, around 5. Lately it does not get light until 7. While I wait for sunrise so I can go for a walk I do my bible study and some study for an exam I am soon to sit. Waiting for dawn can be frustrating as a woman, especially if you want to go out on an important errand and you are walking.
I am sure that these women were awake very early and as soon as possible went together to the tomb. Their early was not early enough as Jesus was gone. He had waited, the Father had waited for this glorious day and now it was here. The Father had waited thousands of years for this day, now it as here. Victory morning! Now what the Father and all heaven knew would be manifest on the earth. The Son of God had risen from the dead. The seal of victory was now in place on our salvation, what a glorious day. The Angels chosen to bring the good news would have been delighted, what a message!
Today we celebrate the seal to our faith. Jesus did indeed die for our sins, but He rose again for our victory over sin and all it entails. Now we could live the new life by the power that raised Christ from the dead, amen!
