He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He might come to have first place in everything.

What an awesome place to be. The One spoken about here is Jesus, the divine Son of God.
I belong to an astronomy club and therefore i know the search of mankind is to discover what holds all things together, what is the invisible matter? As a Christian I known the answer. Thr apostle Paul knew the answer, Jesus. As a Christian Astronomer I stand by and wait patiently for those who don't believe to discover the truth and then have that conversation. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Jesus is the head of thr church. As the head He says what it believes and what it does. Our doctrine was established by Him. We cannot change it. We must honour His words and not water them down for convenience sake. We do not have authority to change the word of God. The very end of the bible tells us this.
He was in the beginning. He started all things. In the beginning was God and Jesus was in God, was God. Jesus was not created. There was not a time when He was not. He has always been God. As God He chose to visit earth and redeem His creation from Satan's clutch. He saved us and gave us a way back to Him.
He is the first fruits of salvation. He began the new Way, when He rose from the dead. The Old was done away with at the cross. Salvation no longer depends on my being good enough. He has made a way to trust in Him to have completed the requirements of the law. It is finished in Him! Amen!
