Listen to Counsel

September 22
Listen to counsel and receive instruction so that you may be wise later in life. Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the Lord ’s decree will prevail.
Proverbs 19:20‭-‬21 HCSB

The ability to listen has to start somewhere. It takes a decision to humble oneself and receive instruction. Why do we not listen? Because of fear, pride or rebellious indifference. We can go on our own instincts, trusting ourselves rather than God.

What happens when we fail to listen? We act foolishly, we act arrogantly, we charge in where the wise dare not go. We make assumptions that all will work out at the end, when it may not. We create a mess for ourselves and others to unravel.

Foolishness is inconsiderate, unwilling to count the cost
