Loving my Neighbour
Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself; I am Yahweh.
Leviticus 19:18 HCSB
Yesterday i gained an understanding of community that is somewhat lost to us in Australia. I visited a humble family home in a part of Kathmandu that many people would shun. It was not pretty. However, as we sat and talked neighbours would come to the window and chat.
The people i was with were new to the house they lived in and thus to the street and community but you would not have known this. This small family were happy and content with a level of living that many Australians could not tolerate.
Yet mamy Nepali have not a good word for India because of the fuel blockade that happened last year. The giant earthquake also happened ladt year and of the two events the blockade caused more hardship. Therefore the Nepali do not like Indians yet from what I reaf there could have been problems on both sides.
There is still evidence of the earthquake but not of the fuel blockade, except in hearts and minds. The Nepali do not like the Indians. Isnt this a common attitude shared by all humanity? When we perceive an individual or group of individuals are the cause of our griwf we allow hatred in.
The above scripture calls us to love our neighbours. Love is only tested in adversity. I show i love you as i forgive you for hurting me. This is the love displayed by the Son of God. On the cross hr prayed: 'Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.' Greater love has not been shown that this by Jesus who laid down His own life to redeem us from our sins. Amen
