Old Age

When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is: fear God and keep His commands, because this is for all humanity.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 HCSB

These verses come from a chapter named: The Twilight Life, in the book of Ecclesiastes. It talks about old age and approaching death. I know several old people in my family and several through my church connections. As people age they become frail and feeble. Some lose their minds to Alzimers disease, and this is sad to watch. In my family none have this, praise God. The four women: my mum and three remaining aunts are all bright mentally but fail physically.

There is another aspect worth noting. When I see old people who still fear God, I rejoice! I spend time monthly, praying for Nepal with a few older women. The one who leads the group is in her later 80s and her love for God and His people still burns bright. This woman was a doctor and gave a good part of her life to Nepal and the gospel.

Seniors who have lost their way sadden me. They have lost their way and lead their families astray as well. Their principles are gone. They embrace all news sins. In the area I live in, there are those who find themselves single, either widowed or divorced and go on the hunt for companship. Thry welcome casual sex and their moral are gone. They hold no account for their behaviour, believing it affects Noone, but it does. The seeds they sow will be reaped by their grandchildren.

Eternity is scoffed at. Yet how foolish is this? How sad when the elders lose the way? Eternity will not be good to them. Eternal suffering awaits them.

before the silver cord is snapped, and the gold bowl is broken, and the jar is shattered at the spring, and the wheel is broken into the well; and the dust returns to the earth as it once was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
Ecclesiastes 12:6‭-‬7 HCSB

To God, our life is precious, a silver cord. He created us as a Glen bowl, meant for glorious treasure. Yet.if we fill it with filth what is the result? Where is the glory?

The gold speaks to me, the saints of old call to me. They cheer me on to the finish line. My Jesus is in the lanes running with me. "Finish well!" He calls.

Eternity is precious to me. It is the praise, the crown of my life. May all who know me say, " She showed the way. Her life spoke of faithfulness!" Amen!

Don't lose faith! Keep the vision! Stay the distance! The prize, the crown of glory awaits you. Amen!
