What is Better Than Sacrifice

Doing what is righteous and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Proverbs 21:3 HCSB

Sacrifice pleases us. Our ego enjoys it. It makes us self-righteous, not God righteous. We cannot be righteous and just without being grafted into the life-giving flow of God.

In the Old Testament sacrifice was instituted for sin but used to cover an unclean heart, a heart that wanted to do things it's own way and by sacrificing an animal it covered the bases required- the least possible it could do.

Today the battle is with us. If my old nature is constantly revived and not truly dead I will lean to sacrifice and not righteousness.

If we genuinely seek the right way then our eyes will be on the Lord. He is God. He is good. Righteousness dwells in Him. If I abide in Him because I choose Him and His ways, then righteousness is easy. Amen!
