The Work...

Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58 HCSB

In this chapter Paul is debating the resurrection from the dead. A teaching had crept into the church about ' once your die that's it,' (my interpretation). Paul says some very interesting things, one I find facinating: people were being baptized on behalf of those who had died. How does that work? Paul does not decry the practise, neither does he condone it, but uses it to illustrate his point about eternity.

If you want to understand the resurrection then this is the chapter for you as it gives the most comprehensive discourse in the whole bible to the subject. Paul states that he was the lowest of the low, because of the persecution he inflicted on the early believers. Yet He proclaims that Christ did indeed rise from the dead as the firstfruits of all who believe.

Being steadfast in our faith requires us to not be moved by strange doctrines and rather be involved in the Lord's work. We have confidence in the Lord's work, in knowing that it is important. Amen!

Don't sit around debating, straining gnats, and arguing points, but rather give yourself to the work of the Lord. Last night at church, our pastor taught us that helping the poor is the highest work we could do. Get going!
