And He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” Luke 22:19 HCSB
Remember Me! These words are often spoken by lovers or 'don't forget me!" Or "I won't forget you!"
Symbolism helps us remember. By using the bread and wine Jesus painted a picture amd we remember. Each time we break the bread to take a piece we remember His body was broken for us; each time we pour out a drink of wine we remember He was crushed for our sins and He poured out His life for us.
We are encouraged to, at this time, when we partake of communion, take the opportunity to prepare our hearts. If we have unforgiveness towards others, now is the time to forgive. The apostle Paul tells us: the reason some of you are sick is because you do not discern the body of believers correctly. Communion is the time when we must come with a heart that appreciates not only our saviour but also our church family. It is a time to claim healing and forgiveness.
Easter brings an acute awareness of the sacrifice Jesus made. It also gives us the promise of new life in Him. As we die to our old life we rise to a new life, in Him. Praise God!
