Glory to God
Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others-the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
Luke 2:13-14 NLT

This is the only time we hear of angels appearing to mankind as a host and praising God together. This event was so different, God being born a human baby.
In the old testament, we see angels visit individuals. Those who visited Daniel were magnificent. However, here we have a host. How many constitute a host? The dictionary indicates a multitude, as in a very large number or an army of individuals.
Imagine having an army of angels appear! The shepherds had this appearance. They would have been quaking in their boots.
Why did a host of angels appear to shepherds? The shepherds are the most humble of people. I encountered such a group of shepherds where climbing mountains in Nepal. They were young men and they spent their time playing volleyball whilst the sheep grazed, overseen by sheepdogs. These were very poor young men.
Yet, God chose shepherds to reveal His glory. Was this in response to His dearest shepherd David? Was it to show the nature of Jesus Christ? Had the shepherds been discussing the Messiah?
One day we will know. However, we need to trust that God is interested in the small and insignificant. Amen!
