A Faithful God

Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.

The challenge for me as a Christian is finding emotional satisfaction in the Lord alone and knowing everything else is a bonus.

I realise how much I expect family to love and accept me, and then am disappointed when it does not happen. 

As a Christian I am called to love God with all my heart, soul and strength and love my neighbour as myself. Yet do I? I can say I love but the love I need to apply is God's love. To a people who did not love Him back, He poured out His love unfailingly. He loved with all He had and gave His Son to win us back.

Jesus told a parable about a landowner who leased His land to people and when rent was due he sent servants who they beat up and sent away. Finally He sent His Son, yet they killed Him.

God sent His Son to show the world His love, yet they killed Him. God did not descend in a raging fire and destroy the killers but continued to offer grace and mercy.

This is the love I must portray. Therein lies the challenge. My reliance must be on God alone. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
