Endurance and Character
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Romans 5:3-5 NLT

All throughout the New Testament, we read such messages of encouragement to endure trials. We do not relish trials, in fact, we probably despise them. Yet all the New Testament writers encourage endurance in trials. They must have known something.
We do face trials and they are a part of life. While we resent them and wish them to go away, they linger.
I spoke to a man on Sunday about a trial and he said: "but God does promise us prosperity." The prosperity many expect may not happen. Yet we may prosper in our relationship with God, we may be instrumental in seeing souls set free, being healed and made whole. We may prosper in revelations in the word of God. Clinging needlessly to financial gain only is empty and shallow, there is so much more. Amen!
