temper-fire

A gentle response defuses anger, but a sharp tongue kindles a temper-fire. Proverbs 15:1 MSG

I have never heard the words 'temper-fire', yet, they describe the image of anger very well. James uses the analogy of fire for gossip as well. A small spark sets on fire a forest, especially if the timber is dry. This reminds me of the situation when a person has gone through a difficult time and been distant to others leading them to misunderstand and fall prey to the enemy's insinuations.

This type of senario gives insight into two types of actions: if feeling marginal press into fellowship, if you notice someone becoming marginal, reach out and draw them in.

When we misunderstand we are easily angered and offended, often unnecessarily, especially if the option of communication was there all along. Don't be lazy! Ask the hard questions and avoid the trap. Amen!
