being doers not just hearers
But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. James 1:22-24 HCSB

Jesus told a parable about two sons. Their father went to each of them and asked them to do a task. The first said: "No I will not go!" But he later repented his ststement and went, whereas the second said: " I will go", but did not go. Then Jesus asked His hearers: "which one did the will of his father?" They replied, as you would: "The first!" (Matt 21: 28-32)
In light of this scripture we can have deeper understanding of the text from James. Hearer who do not act on the word of God, Solomon would call fools. They deceive themselves. It is better to not rush in with a yes than say it and not act on it.
Eternity will be filled with those who act. God does not fill heaven with good intentions or those wanting to look good. Amen!
