losing and saving

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.  If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. Luke 9:23‭-‬24 NLT

This scripture presents a truth that pierces my heart again and again. Just when I think I have given all and died to all, I discover more. There are layers of more.

I may have been pierced once and lost all, but the 'all' was my perception. If there is a mil of self or self-pity, there is more. I am what I believe myself to be and that is encapsulated in my thought life. Scripture tells us: as a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). This scripture was written by Solomon many, many years ago.

Yet I know that when Jesus came He brought light to Old Testament scripture,  with the more that God intended there to be. If I look at the Proverb in this light I know that Jesus would say: "but there is more, there is God's perspective".

Always I must seek God's perspective. This is where there is light and freedom. Amen!
