righteousness

Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed,  for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6 HCSB

Because I know chasing gifts or attributes instead of Jesus I have to process this scripture in the light of Paul to the Romans:
None is righteous, no not one. There is none who understands; there is none who seeks God. 3:10,11 Paul quotes a passage from Psalms 36:1. In 36:2 we gain an insight as to why: for in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to discover and hate his sin.

Then pursuing righteousness has to be through a lense of awareness of one's own sin and predilection towards flattering oneself.

Pursing righteousness, like running after the last toy in the shop, is not pursuing the righteousness we have in Christ. I am made righteous through Him and only through what He has done. It has nothing to do with how holy or clever I am.
