fear and trembling

So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12 HCSB

What does Paul mean by 'fear and trembling'? If you are a person who believes the Christian walk is all 'grace' and 'forgiveness' the this verse may affront you,  however, I hope it challenges you.

If you had read John Bevere's book 'Living for Eternity',  you would be in that space already. John plainly laid out the truth of the whole bible regarding personal accountability, the reality of hell, as well as heaven, and the need to walk aware that you must build with what God considers precious, and not wood, hay and stubble.

Paul affirms this truth in the above verse, in fact John drew on this verse in his book. A good read! John brings the modern day Christian back to truth. We are accountable and could end up in hell if we do not live with the fear of God. Paul knows how easy it is to go astray. He has met many who have gone there. He also knew what awaited those who went astray, hell. Jesus called it a place of 'weeping and gnashing of teeth'.

Therefore, be alert! Walk with awareness! Measure all you do and say with the truth of the whole word of God. Amen!
