pride must die
The greatest among you must be a servant. Matthew 23:11 NLT

The whole chapter 23 deals with pride in those of authority. Jesus was taking a piece out of the Scribes and Pharisees. He called them whitewashed tombs, clean amd white on the outside but full of dead mens bones inside.
As Jesus did serve, He has said He had come to seek and save the lost. He exemplified the servant role by washing the feet of the disciples. This role was not even relegated the Hebrew slaves it was so menial.
What causes people to exalt themselves? Pride! What caises people to humble themselves? Christ!
On Sunday I played keys at church. I arrived early to find the pastor's wife setting up the sound system. Why? There was no one else able and willing to do the task. As the service started this woman donned a jacket and rose to preach a good message. I love my pastors as they are both servants, they do not exalt themselves but humbly serve. They are an example to me and cause me to rise up and serve also. Jesus was like this. He did not exalt Himself, He walked everywhere until the time to ride into Jerusalem came, to fulfil prophesy. Here is your king riding on a donkey (Is 62:11).
Every time I feel pride rise up, and it does, it is time to take a tent peg and drive it through (symbolically). Pride exults in self righteousness, humility exults in Christ's righteousness. The aweful thing about achievement is pride. Pride must die. Amen!
