waiting in need

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. Psalms 40:1‭-‬2 NLT Out of the mud! Have you ever been caught in thick mud? It tends to suck you down. It is a frightening experience. Our enemy attempts to isolate us, making us think we are left behind. This brings a feeling of helplessness, and causes us to doubt the Lord's promises.  It is exactly times like these when we need to be loud in our praise and thanks to the Lord for His salvation.  I am watching the Ukrainian president call on governments of the world for aid. He uses reminders of their past to inspire them of his need. It is very disheartening to see these governments,  again and again,  turn a deaf ear to his desperate need for 'no fly zones'. History is repeating itself. The same thing happened before WW2. Having just come out of WW1 t...

out of the pit

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. Psalms 40:1‭-‬2 NLT There are times  when we are caught in a pit. Joseph was thrown into a pit by jealous brothers. Sometimes our pit is caused by others, but sometimes it is of our own making. Joseph's boasting about his dreams caused the ill feeling his brothers had towards him. Whatever or whoever the cause, God is waiting to be asked for help. I am sure Joseph was praying for God's help. His brothers planned to kill him, all except Reuben. Reuben had planned to rescue his brother. Being the eldest he probably felt responsible. However, Joseph's rescue was not what he expected. He was sold to slave traders by his brothers and then onsold in Egypt to a man called Potiphar. God blessed Joseph but worse was in store. Potiphar's wife wanted to have sex with ...

father God

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy. Psalms 68:5 NLT The first Christian leader I met, who was a good fatherly figure, would have been pastor Bill Beard of the Wollongong Lighthouse Christian Centre. Bill was built like a fighter, was able to muster that 'look' that frightened villians, but we saw the soft, sweet side of him, and loved him for it. Bill had 3 daughters and a son. His wife was lovely and gracious. PB, as we knew him, was my benchmark. My paternal father was not like PB, he was more of a grump, and had difficulty showing his love. Therefore PB was the man. All the young people met in the downstairs of his home and we knew we were safe. We saw PB front some bikers who wanted trouble, he sorted them. He was not afraid of evil. He knew his God. Our God is a magnified version of PB. He is safe to be around, worthy of trust,  love and committment. We are secure with Him. Amen!

partnering with God

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy. Psalms 68:5 NLT I have a friend who has adopted a family of 3 in Kenya. These 3 lost both parents and had been raised in an orphanage. My friend was contacted by the oldest brother when he had to leave to find work, asking for help. This friend has never married or had natural children, and so this was a gift to him. He relishes the relationship and cares deeply for this family. Imagine how much more our heavenly Father cares for those who are orphans and widows. He just needs people like my friend to step into the fray with boldness and willingness. There are many good organisations that people can partner with. Our church supports Compassion. Compassion finds orphaned children and supports them in their education, villages in water supply and animals for families to raise for food. Another organisation I have had the privilege to partner with at times is United Vision Nepal. This group is made up of Ne...

I cannot listen to the noise

Commit your actions to the Lord and you plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 NLT Do you find the wait frustrating? I do, at times, especially when it is quiet, and I know something is coming. The wait can be trying, but then it exists for that very reason. Our patience is tested, our trust in the Lord is tested, and our willingness to leave the matter in the Lord's hands is being tested. Why the test? A few reasons: we need to know the state of our heart, God already knows it. We are learning insight and understanding. We are learning patience so that in time we can be patient with others. Others need our patience and the goodness of God that is built in this time of waiting. The fruits of the Spirit are evidence that God is at work. If they are absent then all will know that it is us that is at work, or, our flesh. A fleshly smell usually accompanies them. King David was annointed king many years before he actually sat on the throne. Joseph received two prophetic dreams years befo...

commit to the Lord

Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 NLT We also know there is another proverb; man makes his plans but God directs his steps(16:9). Plans are good, they give God and us an action to execute.  God knows how He has made us, and what His purposes for us are. He will shepherd us to the right path. We see dimly but He sees clearly. I am grateful there are certain things I know that I know I should complete. There are others, I don't have such assurance about. It is these things I must let God master. Even the things I have assurance about, uni for example, the choices of available units are in His hands. They are always a blessing to me. Whether I go to QLD for Easter, that is debatable and in His hands. I can trust Him He has the best plan for my life. Amen!

understanding

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6 NLT I understand! Is a comment we would make when given a directive. Or perhaps we may claim to understand mathematical or scientific tifjc equations,or even the opposite sex. However,  we might believe we understand, but in fact miss vital information. These are all good reasons to instead rely on a mind outside of our reality. We see better from a distance for others, but are caught in the thick of the tangles of our emotions and thoughts. Our God is higher and far above our reality. He knew us are beginning of time. Now, that is some foresight. We can trust our God's perspective. When He says: my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways you ways, we had better believe Him. So, with all this information are you going to Insist on ruling the roost? If you are it is foolishness at best. Try trusting! Amen

seek truth

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6 NLT I wonder when Solomon wrote this? We know he fell into idolatry from marrying foreign women. The proverb says; seek His will in all you do. Marrying is one thing we do. Perhaps there are some things we think we should do, expect we should do,  and do without consultation.  Marrying women from other countries and kingdoms to keep peace was something kings did, but God had given Solomon peace. What made him take this path? Was this an inherited sin from his father David who married several women, all Jewish I believe but not without sin. He took Bathsheba, a married woman, and killed her husband to make his theft right. When we believe we are taking the right path in relationships, but do not consult the Lord, we can find ourselves in error. Is ending our days away from God worth the sin? Is all eternity separa...

the challenges of love

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT Faith resonates with my spirit.  I have been called to live in faith, hope sustains me in prayer and the love of God keeps me going. I have had prophesies and dreams about faith. The faith of the saints of God impresses me. The Lovd God has for us draws us to believe, it did me. Hope in God's word to my spirit keeps me moving forward. Love for others compels me, yet love for the brethren can be lost at times, whereas love for the lost is more attractive. Love for the church is most challenging. However, love spoken of my Paul challenges me to new depths. Deeper still! Amen!

the greatest

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT Many will come and claim they are the greatest, but they die just like any other human. However, the apostle Paul tells us love is the greatest of faith, hope, and love. He explains why, and his explanation is valid. Love causes us to endure all things, hope all things, beilieve all things, and love never ends. You might disagree as you spouse once told you he loved you and left you for another woman. The love that Paul is speaking about is agape love, the God -kind of love. This kind of love is the one that took Jesus to the crossing is sacrificial, non-judgemental. It is not the type we can demand of others selfishly, but give to others sacrificially. This love God had for the world in sending His Son to win us back to Him. It is through Christ we have a relationship with the Father again. It is through Jesus our sins are forgiven, and we are made right with the Father. Prais...

I will rejoice

Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! Habakkuk 3:17‭-‬18 NLT During our last drought that endured for some 3 years, many farmers had to sell their breeding stock.  Their barns were empty of grain and animals.  They were devastated. Drought does this, so does excessive flooding. Today I read of one city called Lismore in NSW, Australia.  The flooding had been so bad that it almost completely submerged homes. Everything  was lost. Many had no insurance. I wonder at this  as I have insurance, even though it means I go without other things. Perhaps the people were too poor, or perhaps negligent.  Some folks would rather spend on alcohol, fast food, cigarettes and gambling. However, I do not know. Now...

even tho

Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! Habakkuk 3:17‭-‬18 NLT We have so many things that can go wrong: weather disasters, health disasters, relationship disasters, wars, eathquakes, etc.  Yet, Habakkuk says what we need: even though all may fall apart, yet will I rejoice in the Lord. As we rejoice we change our hearts, our perspectives, and also our circumstances. We provide avenues for miracles. Those who know the Lord will do great exploits! Amen

healthy words

Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24 NLT Kind words bring life, they lift people's spirits. They are an effort to give, but the results are worth it. So many are starved for encouragement. Kind words encourage. Kind words bring hope of a new day. Give someone a new day! Amen!

kind words

Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24 NLT Kind words are valuable, a kind heart even more so. They possess even more value when we are in trouble or being attacked. Having time for others amidst our own trials makes them more powerful. In trouble we tend to attack in retaliation. Not good if kind words are needed. Kind words come from a humble heart. A humble heart comes from submission to Christ and the cross we must endure. Jesus is our example. Though He was about to experience crucifixion, the chapters in John's gospel, just before this event, are filled with love, compassion and kindness. How was this possible? He remained connected to the Father, and submitted to His leading. Amen!

stay focused

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6:34 NLT How was today? Was there enough to concern yourself with? The answer is 'yes'. Anxiety endeavours to push more into today. The chief need is to maintain a boundary and say, 'No!' Worry gives us something to do and often has no prophetic ability about tomorrow. Staying focused with eyes ahead on an eternal future has a way of eliminating the confusion and noise. Stay focused!

be brave

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6:34 NLT Tomorrow! Who worries about tomorrow? Many people. Some with good reason, the day they die, the day of an exam, the day of an operation, the day they lose everything. It might be marked on a calendar. It might be etched in our minds. Why then did Jesus give such a command? Well, for one, He also faced such a day, the day He would face crucifixion. He was practising what He preached. He knew that often things can change, a miracle can happen, and God intervenes, He prayed for such an intervention, but did not receive it. I know, from experience, that God often does miracles and the thing expected disappears or the need for it does. I also know that worry is a waste of time, as it robs me of today, as well as tomorrow. Remember, Satan comes to rob, steal and destroy.  Worry is one of His tools. Apart from miracles that remove the expected, there is power to e...

sin

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:12 NLT What do we consider as evil? Usually we think of murder, abuse of children, stealing, trafficking drugs and people. However what does God say? All sins are equal, they all fall short of the glory of God. Jesus taught that even if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has sinned. He then moved on to murder. He said if you hate your brother you are just as guilty of sin. Let us not justify our sins. Sin is missing the mark. Nothing is exempt.  But, He is able to deliver us from all sin. Gossip is sin. Envy is sin. Let us humble accept the truth and find God's strength to overcome. Amen!

doing good

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:12 NLT This is a good promise, or more a fact. It is wise to ask, "is this evil, are my words evil?" We assume not but what does the Lord see? We are often right in our own eyes. However, who is controlling the narrative? Are we being manipulated by evil? We may think we are able to drink wine, and in its right place we can, but what is our position? If we are a leader we must ask, who is watching? Who am I influencing? If we attend certain movies or events, who are we speaking to? If we give ourselves permission to speak a certain way, who will hear us? Have we become our own God? Have we, unwittingly, fallen for the lie,  'I am my own master'? If we have listened to the lies, God sees, and will test us so that we can also see. We need to see our sin, as it will trip us up, and cause us to fall. God is wanting t...

are you ready?

And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped. Zechariah 14:9 NLT Lord of all! This is how John saw Jesus in the Book of  Revelation. Jesus was no longer humble and gentle, but rather the ruling King, apart from when He appeared as the lamb that was slain who opened the scrolls. We have to understand judgement is a part of the final chapter. Here the saints will be judged for what we did with what we were given. The world will be judged for rejecting Him, and it won't be pretty.  Zechariah had a glimpse of this. God's people will be blessed but the world will be judged. We need to know where we stand with Him. The day is approaching fast and soon will be here. Are you ready?

the millennium

And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped. Zechariah 14:9 NLT This is part of a prophesy about when Jesus returns to defeat the enemies of His people and begin His rule on earth. Verses 1-21 cover the unfolding of the events. There will be permanent day and a river will flow out from Jerusalem, part to the Dead Sea and part to the Mediterranean Sea. It speaks of Judgement on those nations who fought against Him and a requirement for all to go up to Jerusalem once a year. A different Jesus will reign. Everything, every pot will be inscribed with 'Holy is the Lord'. There will be no place for rebellion, no place for self-interest and opposing those who rule, on social media. It will be a very interesting time. How will mankind cope? The alternative is judgement and a rotting disease.

trust Him

If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. Jeremiah 29:13 NLT 'All in' is a state of play in poker. It is where a person, with not many chips, decide to make a final all out attempt to stay in the game by punting they have a winning hand. It is a huge gamble. Yet in life 'all in' can mean total committment. If all we are, and all we believe is placed on the Lord, He will not fail us. Many in Ukraine are doing just this. God is their only hope. Many in Afghanistan who claim Jesus as their the Lord  are doing this also. Rather than selling their unborn babies or little girls, they are standing firm trusting God. He will not fail them.  He has never let me fail, He is always faithful! Trust Him! He will set you free!

transformation

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.” Jeremiah 29:11‭-‬14 NLT Who were these words written to? The children of Israel on their departure to be held in captivity in Babylon for 70 years. God had also told them to not listen to false prophets who told them the time would be shorter, as it would still be 70 years. We gentiles draw hope from the scriptures above, or parts thereof, and God does speak to us through them. However, the point is: a time-frame does exist and God is in control of that time. As we see with many of the saints of old: Abraham, Moses, David, Joseph. Each had a time in captivity or bani...

His thoughts

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8‭-‬9 NLT Praise God! I am so glad His thoughts are higher than mine! He lifts me up, yes! He empowers me to be what He sees I can be. He is the best of all I can be! Let go of the reins and allow God to take them, you will be so glad you did! Amen!

higher

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8‭-‬9 NLT The Lord thinks about us constantly, His love is towards us continually.  Just as little children on swings call out to their parents, "Look at me," we do not need to coax the Lord away from His phone or TV. He is all on, all the time. Allow Him to take you higher! Amen! We do not need to doubt Him. He promises to be for us. Jesus said that He and the Father would make their home with us ,and He will, and do.

times of trouble

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalms 46:1 NLT Times of trouble come to us all, sometimes through no fault of our own, other times we are the cause. However, no matter what the cause, God is our refuge. If we are the cause, forgiveness makes us clean, but we still suffer the consequences. If we are not the cause we can seek God for His refuge, deliverance and more. Strength to endure is imparted by God. I am reading a book called Jesus Freaks by DC Talk. It is basically a remake of Foxes Book of Martyrs.  The stories are harrowing. The brave are those fearless warriors willing to face  death, at the hands of their persecutors, for their faith. Again and again they talk of Jesus and the Holy Spirit being the source of their strength.  He is our strength and song! Amen!

my help

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalms 46:1 NLT In times of devestation I go to the Lord. His counsel is best and most wholesome. While friends give the tactile approach, God is all encompassing, comforting and well, just perfect. His views are best. His standards are best. His love is best. Next He helps me pray into that situation. As a Christian I have a powerhouse I can access and that powerhouse needs to be focussed on the good I can do. Scripture tells me: my help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1). Noone else has all the answers or access to the hearts of others. So, today pray, pray, pray!

pure and genuine

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:27 NLT Pure and genuine means without hypocrisy, looking to see who is watching, trying to manipulate the Lord with grandiose behaviour. Thr Lord is not fooled by show, but rather He is impressed by genuine action.  Social media makes it difficult to not boast with "look at me!" Comments and posts about what we are doing can easily, sneakily cause us to feel self-righteous. Not good either. Jesus told us to not let the left hand know what the right hand is doing, so secret behaviour, which is seen by the Father is more important to Him. For this He will reward us.  Kept it under wraps! Amen!

caring

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:27 NLT If I asked you what you thought pure and genuine religion was would you give the same answer? Probably not. Perhaps you would say reading your bible and praying every day, loving the Lord to the best of your ability, or if you were heroic,  perhaps serving your community in a soup kitchen, or with St Vincent de Paul or the Salvation army. The verse before this verse above James says : if you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are fooling yourself and your religion is worthless.  What is motivating James? Perhaps he had a problem with gossips and people who were lazy. James was the leader of the church in Jerusalem. As any good leader he is addressing issues. How does this help us? It makes me smarten up and listen. We have orphans and widows in our world but where do we find them? Who do t...

settle the questions

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12 NLT As we settle the questions that arise in our lives, when they retun we must stand our ground and say, " this has been dealt with!" For example, if you decide to trust the Lord for your finances then when temptations come for a quick solution, you can reject it and move on. The same goes for relationships. If you decide you will not put up with people who disrespect you, then you will not give your love to abusive Individuals. Either Jesus is Lord or not at all. You decide! Amen!

stand strong

If your faith remains strong, even while surrounded by life’s difficulties, you will continue to experience the untold blessings of God! True happiness comes as you pass the test with faith, and receive the victorious crown of life promised to every lover of God! James (Jacob) 1:12 TPT Hebrews put it thus way:You need the strength of endurance to reveal the poetry of God’s will and then you receive the promise in full. For soon and very soon, “The One who is appearing will come without delay!” And He also says, “My righteous ones will live from my faith. But if fear holds them back, my soul is not content with them!” Hebrews 10:36‭-‬38 TPT Proving the will of God to receive what has been promised is what my life is about. The walk of faith is a daily one, choosing daily to believe, daily to seek, push in, daily to apprehend by faith the promises. It is not for the lazy or faint hearted, it is warrior stuff. Amen!

my Hope

He’s the hope that holds me and the stronghold to shelter me, the only God for me, and my great confidence. Psalms 91:2 TPT He is indeed, and He does it well! My needs are well covered and He delights in surprising me with my desires, in His time. I can never pick how and when they will arrive. There are things I still bring before Him. I keep on knocking and asking and when He known I am ready they will arrive. Praise Him!

safety

This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. Psalms 91:2 NLT We cannot trust in man or the things he builds like we can trust in the Lord. The Lord is not fickle, He is constantly faithful. When we run hither and thither expecting this person or that person to save us, we will be disappointed. Mankind constantly has a battle with its flesh, its propensity to walk in his own carnality.  Only God is pure and undefiled. Only God is not tempted to sin. Only God is able to save! Amen!

close to the broken hearted

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalms 34:18 NLT I recently heard how a church in Mariupol, the most heavily bombed city in Ukraine, has not had one pane of the glass in their windows broken, and that the bombing only coming within 300m of the church. The church is providing a safe haven for the women, children and elderly.  They have a generator to power heaters to keep them warm.  Whilst I do not know how they are managing for food and water, it appears they are prospering amidst the darkness. I have found the best way to pray for Ukraine is to be one of them in spirit. We are a part of the one body of Christ, and so I pray as if I am there. I sense a love from the Lord as I pray. He is also with the Christians in Russia. He is with us all,  no matter what our governments are doing. Many suffer world wide and need us to partner with them in prayer and giving.  We cannot lose focus of God's people, wherever they ma...

rescue

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalms 34:18 NLT Rescue is something we all want in calamitous times. Yesterday I saw such a rescue. In the Northern part of NSW, Australia severe flooding almost covered all the buildings in the town of Lismore. Thousands were left homeless. Yesterday a convoy of mobile homes arrived to house these people until their homes could be rebuilt or restored. Imagine the joy and relief they experienced. I am praying constantly for the people of Ukraine that such a rescue is theirs. That they would experience their mighty saviour again and again. We hear stories of God's protection and see bombs that failed to detonate. Yet, we also see many buildings completely smashed into little pieces. It grieves me that all we do is sit and watch the destruction. Their only hope is in the Lord, and He is mighty to save. No matter what I have experienced my God has always been present for me. I have heard such stories ...

know my heart

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalms 139:23‭-‬24 NLT I praise God for the Holy Spirit.  He sees all, and convicts of all that is wrong. He also gives us the gift of repentance, praise Him! Today is an important day. We need to pray for the war in Ukraine. The enemy appears to be closing in on Kiev. All appears dark. Let us give him a God revelation? Let's pray for God's purposes to be established? Lord may Your Kingdom come, Your will be done! May your enemies be routed! Toss them like cut grass! Show the might of Your hand! Answer the prayers of your saints! Amen!

search me

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalms 139:23‭-‬24 NLT I had an unusual dream this morning before waking. In the dream I was contracting an arsonist to set fire to my contents of the house I was in, so I could make a claim. As the man was setting fires I realised I was sinful attempting to deceive my insurers and would not be able to make a claim. Then I realised I was living in a good friends house and had probably damaged her fixtures as well. Suddenly she was there and I knew I wanted to tell her my sin but she was too busy telling me all was OK, not much of hers was damaged anyway. Foolishly I blurted out, "well you have had over $6,000 in rent from me over the years." I remember the feeling of offence at being charged unrelenting rent by a friend. She ignored this comment and I knew I was now battling a new deceptive reason for not telling...

God's prophesy

“How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you. We have never even heard of another God like you! 2 Samuel 7:22 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/2sa.7.22.NLT This verse is part of  David's prayer to the Lord after the prophet Nathan had visited him. And told him he would not build God a temple but a son (Solomon) would build it instead, as David was a man of war. David amassed huge amounts of treasures, nonetheless, in preparation for that event. When God gives us a message, through prophesy, we are touched in our spirits, and know He is looking over us. Even if the prophesy is 'no!' It is still God's word. Often prophesy is to encourage us, because usually there is a time space involved. We must press in and wait patiently. Ah!

no God like You

“How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you. We have never even heard of another God like you! 2 Samuel 7:22 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/2sa.7.22.NLT As we come to know Jesus as our personal saviour we are struck with this scripture.  What other God wants to know me as friend? None! In the day this was written all other nations to Israel had gods whom the people made themselves, out of wood or clay or metals. Although it gave them comfort having an idol in their own homes or villages to pray to,  they were powerless to save. In the Ukrainian war we hear countless stories about God's protection and provision. In our own lives we have these stories as well. The less we have naturally, the more we depend spiritually and the more we receive naturally. I grew up in a catholic household. My parents had a statue of Mary, the mother of God. I did not pray to her as she did not impress me. I wanted her son Jesus. I found Him and did not need a statue, He lives in...

a different freedom

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 4:4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.4.4.NLT Freedom is foremost in the hearts of many, especially those who are oppressed or believe they are oppressed. Yet, Jesus came that we might truely be free: free from rejection, free from abandonment, free from disease, free from offence,  free from guilt and finally freedom from sin. We may think we are becoming free by casting off traditional beliefs about ourselves and others, by rebellion against societal laws, by refusing to be typecast.  However, we are only walking into a bondage we cannot see or define. True freedom is in Christ and His kingdom. Amen!

what spirit are you?

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 4:4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.4.4.NLT John had been addressing an anti-Christ spirit. He said that anyone who could not confess the Lordship of Christ had such a spirit. Today there are many subtle deceptions. There is a progression to belief that hell is not real and that sin is not something we are guilty of. The word 'sin' is in fact an unpleasant word. Why? We do not want to be told about sin because we are self- righteous and judge ourselves to be right. How far will it be before we deny the deity of Christ? Is not this a natural progression to where we no longer believe we need a saviour? God forbid that this happens, however, I can guarantee the deceiver is working hard in this arena. It was happening in John's day, and it will be happening in ours. Therefore we need to be wi...

learn to enjoy

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/php.4.6-7.NLT What do you need today? Have you told God about it and asked for His help? Or have you complained, felt sorry for yourself and whined to friends? Have you thanked God for all He has done? No? Why not? Two days ago I noticed my windows needed cleaning and thought, ' I will have to clean them soon'. However, I had planned on being away cleaning other peoples houses with the other support services over the coast, after the floods. That did not transpire and the windows were washed. I must say they look spiff! Whilst I wash I prayed for Ukraine. I finished about 2pm and was very pleased with the result.  I determined to sit and listen to a few podcast...

fix our thoughts

Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 TPT https://bible.com/bible/1849/php.4.6-7.TPT This morning I am disappointed. My deployment with the RFS has been cancelled. I was looking forward to meeting and helping so many people caught in floods. The Lord has another plan. Often we are disappointed in the turn of events. Yet, what has God got for us in the day? My day appears to be empty, but empty of what? Doing? Perhaps He wants me to focus on prayer. He has a better plan. Man makes his plans but God directs his steps! Amen!

the Holy Spirit

If imperfect parents know how to lovingly take care of their children and give them what they need, how much more will the perfect heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit’s fullness when his children ask him.” Luke 11:13 TPT https://bible.com/bible/1849/luk.11.13.TPT The Holy Spirit is willing and able to give His gifts to us. He is willing, also, to comfort and counsel us in times of need. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are powerful gifts: faith,  miracles, words of knowledge, words of wisdom, discernment of spirits, Healing, different kinds of tongues, Interpretation of tongues. Right now we need all of these. The Holy Spirit is powerful and ready to assist. Get to know Him! Amen!

good gifts

So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” Luke 11:13 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/luk.11.13.NLT We can focus on the seemingly harshness of being told we are sinful or hear the promise. This scripture was a part of a whole message about God hearing our prayers and ends with God giving us the Holy Spirit. The people who Jesus was teaching were not yet the recipients of His saving work, freedom from sin or the sending of the Holy Spirit. As we were once, they were caught in their sins and the Holy Spirit had not yet come to them. How much more should we honour our saviour by walking in faith towards His gift of forgiveness from all that was, our sin, and being brought into His kingdom. He is good! Amen!

truth prevails

Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. 1 John 3:18 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.3.18.NLT How do we show we love one another? In what we do and in walking in truth. We should encourage one another with the scripture and songs. If we are erring then sharing scripture sets us right. Song lift our spirits and create room for joy. Truth is important. Believing half truths is like believing a lie. Proverbs says: a person thinks a certain way until someone comes along and cross-examines him. In other words: "seriously why do you say that? What does God say in scripture?" Lovimg one another means we will pray for one another, praying that truth prevails. Amen!

with skin on

Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. 1 John 3:18 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.3.18.NLT I remember when in February 2020 my mum died and shortly after we all, in NSW, Australia, went into lock down for around six weeks. I was alone. When lock down ended I called two friends and told them I needed friends with skin on. I needed them present in my life, not just in words or sms'. They heard me and came. For several weeks we were in constant touch, met, played games and had dinner. These friends were showing their love for me. Sometimes we need to remind people of this need to be present friends with skin on. We are too used to living on our screens, sending hugs and hearts to people, when they really need to see someone and talk. On Friday I go to help flood victims who really need people with skin on, helping to clean up and talking, loving and sharing stories. Don't forget you live in a body and visible presenc...

helping hands

She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy. Proverbs 31:20 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.31.20.NLT A long time ago, when mum was still alive, I signed up to be a RFS (regional fire service NSW) volunteer. Today I received news that the RFS needed volunteers  to assist with the clean up after the floods we have had. They wanted a long weekend. I thought, yes! I can go! I called them and arranged to collect uniforms, boots etc ready for a Friday bus trip to the coast. I was told to buy mud boots, which I did. When I told the supplier what I was doing the respect given was amazing. It is interesting that most people are in awe of those who do serve, but would never dream of doing it themselves. I love to serve my community and am proud to help while I can. My sense of adventure is not far behind me. Think of all the new people I can meet. Wow! What an opportunity to share Jesus' love!

the poor

She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy. Proverbs 31:20 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.31.20.NLT Who are the poor? They could be in our streets, our cities and towns. These are those who have come on hard times. Many in Australia have lost homes to floods and fires. Abuse is rife and so mothers and children are sleeping in cars. The price of real estate has sky rocketed and rents have risen beyond the reach of many. Homelessness is prevalent. All this is just within Australia. However, in other areas war destroys homes, invaders take what was yours. God requires that those who have do not spend it all on themselves but leave the fringes of their fields, or finances, for the poor. He promises to bless us as we care for the poor. This scripture from Proverbs talks about a woman who is mindful of the poor. This woman is spoken of highly by Solomon. May we earn such praise! Amen!

brave warriors

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.4.4.NLT God's word feeds my spirit, it picks me up and encourages me. Without it I am exhausted.  Our spirits need spiritual food. Many starve their spirits and overfeed their flesh. They become fat babies. God needs us to be lean warriors who know their God and who do great exploits. He needs us knowing how to stay in Him, trusting Him for our strength and supply. We are seeing brave Ukrainians confronting the Russian troops with nothing but bravery. This disarms their adversaries. Our God needs us to bravely fight for His kingdom to come and not be happy to sit in the muck of world pleasures. Get up! Fight and pray in the Spirit! Be alert! Amen!

purpose

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.4.4.NLT How do we live by every word that comes from the mouth of God? Jesus said He only did what He saw the Father doing. How do we see what the Father is doing? Perhaps the answe lies in John 14, the vine analogy. Jesus said that if we abided in Him our prayers would be answered,  and that He and the Father would come and live with us. That is pretty amazing! If the godhead lived in my house I would know exactly what they were up to. However, I must first learn to abide. In abiding I understand that I don't just live to eat, drink, work, procreate and die. I have  purpose beyond me, a divine purpose. I find that purpose in Christ. Amen!

time is short

That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Joel 2:12 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jol.2.12.NLT Why does this verse say: while there is time? Perhaps we are running out of time. For many their time has come, some too early others live a long, full life. A famous Aussie bowler called Shane Warne died yesterday at 52. He had a heart attack whilst on a 'boys weekend' in Thailand. This does not sound like a clean living weekend. Perhaps he died just where his enemy wanted, lost. Many will die today in war, from car accidents or disease. Will they see their end coming? Perhaps yes and perhaps no. We each think we have time to put things right. We tend to leave these things until too late. One is making their soul right with the Lord. Today is the day of salvation, not tomorrow or next week, or next year. If God is drawing us to Him, we had better respond. There may not be a tomorrow. Amen!

turn to the Lord

That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Joel 2:12 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jol.2.12.NLT Always repentance is best! When we acknowledge we can no longer control the narrative, or pitch the lie that all is ok under our command, then turning to God in repentance is the answer. It requires humility,  but oh the joy that comes with repentance! World-wide we are facing more and more that we cannot control through manipulation or diplomacy. Now is the time to humble ourselves and seek the Lord for His kingdom purposes. The kingdom of God must rule over all we do and say. Self-righteousness is not enough. Humilty acknowledges this and submits to its rule and reign. Time is up! Time to seek the Lord!

rest for the weary

For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.” Jeremiah 31:25 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jer.31.25.NLT The war in Ukraine is now in its 10th day. Many will be weary, and weary people struggle to be alert. I have prayed for rest for them. I have to trust the Lord that He indeed gives them good rest. In our eastern coastal areas in Australia there are many weary. Floods have innundated some areas quite badly. Many have spent days sleeping in their cars or on their rooves. Many are weary of COVID. As a human race we are weary of disease and disasters, let alone wars. What is the answer? Jesus! He is our only hope! As we go to Him He amply provides. Amen!

joy for sorrow

For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.” Jeremiah 31:25 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jer.31.25.NLT Circumstances make us sorrowful, only God can give us joy. This is my prayer for those suffering: may you come to know the presence of the Lord in your sorrow, and may your sorrow turn to joy, joy that knowing Him brings. I have experienced this and know it to be true. In my deepest sorrow I ran to Him and He was there for me. Psalm 23 says: though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no danger, for You are with me. Thr Psalm also promises a feast in the presence of our enemies. Claim this? Be encouraged! Amen!

pray

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Colossians 4:2 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/col.4.2.NLT Pray with a thankful heart! Thankfulness drags us back to acknowledging the sovereignty of God. The Lord reigns! May He rule over us. Today we hear Russia is firing on the world's largest nuclear plant. What sort of mindless violence would do something like that? Why do those firing the bullets think they would not perish also? Why do they think this is clever warfare? We must run to the Lord and pray! Pray for His intervention. Pray for the people who would be affected. Pray for our own countries to be responsible and caring. Pray for those who will die in this war, pray for the perpetrators. Now is not the time to be watching sports, living it up, ignoring the suffering.  Now is the time for action. Finally thank the Lord for His plan. Amen!

an alert mind

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Colossians 4:2 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/col.4.2.NLT Devoting ourselves to something means we are committed to it fully. If we devote ourselves to a new born child, it is our responsibility, we care with all our hearts.  The beautiful thing about the baptism in the spirit is that the Spirit is always praying and you find it easy to partner with Him, once the decision has been made. We live in a time when devestation upon devastation is occurring. In our country Australia the East Coast has been hit with cyclonic weather causing massive amounts of flooding. Thousands have lost their home. The disaster is reported to be the worst yet experienced.  On the international front we are watching helpless as Ukraine is being bombed by its neighbour Russia, all because we have been threatened with nuclear war if we do become involved. We would be foolish to think Taiwan won't be next. How will we respond then? Pr...

the door

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.1.9.NLT Who enjoys confessing their sins? No? Yet who knows the joy of forgiveness? Yes? We can't have forgiveness without repentance, which is what is required to be ready to confess our sins. If we confess sin because we are compelled to, then repentance is often missing. I grew up in the Catholic faith. We were obliged to go to confession. Often on the way there I would be scrambling for what to confess. I had no awareness of sin, therefore no repentance. Yet at 19 when I finally did become convicted of my sin, I found real repentance and forgiveness.  What a joy I discovered! I was free of sins dominion, but more importantly I had found the door. Jesus said, in John, I am the door. He is the way, the truth and the life! Amen!

faithful and just

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.1.9.NLT The prodigal son (Luke 15: 11-32) exemplifies what the Father is like with a repentant heart: He runs to meet us; He forgives; He celebrates; He remonstrated with the offended on our behalf. I would say repentance turns God's crank. How can we treat a repentant heart? The same! If it is good enough for God, it should be good enough for us. Amen!

turn from wicked ways

Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Acts of the Apostles 3:19 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/act.3.19.NLT 2 chronicles 7:14 says: if My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and heal their land. Turning from wicked ways should incorporate heartfelt repentance, if not it is just for show, and useless. However, we see how much God values repentance. He loves it,  His children are coming to Him. Through Jesus we have the forgiveness of all our sins,  repentance opens the gifts of grace and forgiveness. Our forgiveness is signed, sealed and delivered. How good is that! Amen!

repent

Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Acts of the Apostles 3:19 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/act.3.19.NLT Repent means to cease.the way you were going and have a heartfelt change in direction. The people to whom Peter was speaking had possibly been those who condemned Jesus to death. He has been telling his audience that the man he prayed for, and saw healed, was healed by the power of Jesus, whom they put to death. He was now calling them to repent, and seek forgiveness and have a change of heart. This message landed them in jail, but the Lord sent an angel to set them free. If we are those who have persecuted believed and put them down, then hear the gospel,  we have an opportunity to repent. Repentance is a gift from God, therefore, we should take it. Being cleansed from sin is the most beautiful place to be. Knowing you have come to the Lord and He forgives and welcomes you, is the beginning of a life of knowing Him. Don't neglect such...

thirsty

I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Psalms 42:2 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.42.2.NLT When we thirst, we are desperate. Nothing will satisfy but a cool drink. The Psalmist is that thirsty for God. Imagine that!  Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well. He was thirsty for water, but suddenly He saw her need. The scripture does not say He received the water He asked for, but it does say that the woman He spoke to found her answer in Him. Jesus can satisfy like no other. No one can give us our deepest needs, only Him! When the disciples returned from buying food He was no longer hungry, but said: " my food is to do the will of Him who sent Me". He knew His source, He stayed connected. Amen!

trust God!

As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” Psalms 42:1‭-‬3 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.42.1-3.NLT Evil always taunts children of God. It is doing that in many places, and in many ways right now. Yet,  God is for us, not against us. His armies surround us. We need to look up and see Him. Yesterday I read a note from saints in Ukraine. They said, "We feel your prayers, keep praying!" We cannot underestimate the power of prayer. I know when people are praying for me, I feel uplifted. Prayer works! Do notnresign to evil! Pray! Trust God to be mighty on behalf of others! Amen!
