compaasion

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. Luke 6:36 NLT

What is compassion? We could look in the dictionary or look to Jesus. The bible tells us 'He looked on them with compassion, because they were sheep without a shepherd'(Matt 9:36). He had a deep love, understanding and heart for the lowly and mistreated. He healed lepers, blind, lame, deaf, He raised a widow's son back to life. He went to Samaria to speak to a woman who had been married 5 times and now living with a man not her husband. He did not go to the pretty people, they came to Him. He forgave tax collectors, prostitutes, a woman caught in adultery and more, but He gave stick to the Pharisees who ruled over them all. He called them white washed tombs, full of dead men's bones.
Who do we seek to spend time with? The whole, the families, the rich, those we perceive can help us with our goals?

There is an organisation called Compassion,  many give to help children is poor countries. However, if we see the organisation as the doer of our compassion, we are in error. On His departure Jesus told us to go and do what He did,  not relegate the mission to others. We must do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.

I saw a FB post two days ago. A local woman had compassion for the homeless and was seeking assistance to set up feeding programs. Several people advised her of organisations already doing just what she planned and to talk to them first. In other words, they all knew of organisations and were happy for them to do the work. I was sad for this woman as her heart was beautiful and a few other women wanted to join her. It showed me compassion is alive in my community, so is the majority who happily let others do the work.

Before Jesus we must come, and we must answer Him for what He gave us, and the work He wanted us to do. Is compassion one of those works?
