our Father

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.Luke 6:36 NLT

John 3:16 tells us how the Father is compassionate:
For God so loves the world that He sent His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

When my son was little I could not envision sending him to die for the whole world. The love I have for my son is therefore selfish, I want him to live  as my son. However, the Father knew that only One who is perfect could come, and be that sacrifice.  Jesus lived a perfect life, and remained so the whole time He was on earth. He qualified. It did not mean He liked the prospect,  as a man dying for our sins, especially as it involved such suffering. However, He said, " Not my will, but Your will be done oh Lord!"

How can we choose to suffer so that we can be self-sufficient and self- righteous? We may think we win but when we face our judge we lose. The suffering we face is eternal,  in a lake of fire that does not go out, filled with worms that do not die. Yuck!

Oh Lord have mercy! Open our eyes to see truth. Amen!
