“For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.”
Titus 2:11-14 NLT
Prior to Jesus’ coming we had law. Law was excellent at revealing sun, but not at delivering us from sin. I grew up in a Catholic home, it was ruled by law. When grace came to me in 1973 I was ecstatic. Then I had to unlearn law and learn grace.
The disciples struggled with unlearning law. In the early church there were those who insisted on circumcision and abstinence from various meats. The apostles had to wait on God for the right way. Grace was found.
The apostle Paul, a Pharisee of Pharisees had an amazing deliverance from legalism. He had no trouble with grace. Perhaps it was because he knew how he transgressed the law of Christ in killing God’s people. He knew he was a sinner saved by grace.
It is true that those who have been forgiven much love much. May we lay down our law and embrace grace and live in and out of grace! Amen!
