Pray for those who mistreat you

““But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭27‬-‭28‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Who are those who mistreat us? We must be careful to understand this completely. If I feel slighted, am I being mistreated? No! It could be that I am being a tad selfish expecting immediate attention. If someone fails to get back to me, am I being mistreated? No! Did we ask for a call back and was it reasonable to expect one?

I think the mistreatment Jesus may be talking about would be related to the time He was in. The Roman army occupied Israel and despot kings were given rulership over different provinces. I think John the Baptist would have a complaint about Herod, he was in prison. Yet, even here, John was challenged by Jesus for being offended that Jesus did not rescue him. Only Jesus knew why He did not rescue John. Only God will know what some us will not be rescued. Here the same admonishment applies to us: “blessed is He who is not offended!”

Instead of being offended we should pray! Amen!
