“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.””2 Corinthians 9:7 NLT
Paul was taking up an offering for the people affected by the famine in Jerusalem. He was speaking to Greek believers who had not been raised in the Jewish faith. Tithing was not spoken of by Paul. Perhaps it was a part of the law that he did not expect new believers to participate in. However, he did say a lot about generosity in this chapter.
Generosity in a believer reveals their heart towards God. As we love the Lord, who is generous, we become generous. If we love our money more than the Lord we will be stingy.
Paul teaches tht the generous will be watered:
“For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.”
2 Corinthians 9:10 NLT
The Lord is generous and He is looking for those who will also respond with a generous heart. Don’t close off your heart in regard to your purse, keep it open and God will direct you. Amen!
