“Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.”James 5:7-8 NLT
The early church believed the Lord was returning in their lifetime; as time progressed and He did not return many fell away. Many now believe that the Lord is returning soon. I remember when I became a Christian in the 70’s we read David Wilkinson’s books and believed Jesus would return soon. We are still here watching prophesy being fulfilled.
As we wait for the return of the Lord we have a mandate: go into all the world and preach the gospel and be patient . I have been reading books about missionaries, because that is what I am. They stir up my spirit to serve the Lord in the mandate He has given me.
When I was swimming on Monday He dropped into my spirit a picture of what I could be doing for the poor in Nepal. I am prayerfully considering His request. Yesterday I began reading a book about a woman who went to Sudan. My Lord is smashing all my preconceived notions and preparing me for an outpouring of His love.
Today as I go to church I am seeking His love and presence. I want His love to motivate all I do. Amen!
