Let go and trust

“Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” John‬ ‭8‬:‭31‬-‭32‬, ‭36‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We often hear the verse, “ and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. But, do we give knowledge to the rest? We are truely His disciples if we remain in Him and are faithful to His teachings?

We cannot give the nod to Jesus’ teachings and not practise them. He is the source of life, if we remain in Him. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He alone is truth, there is no other truth. He is the word made flesh. In other words the embodiment of God’s eternal word.

John tells us in Chapter 1: “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God.” John‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We associate ‘word’ with black letters on a page. They are impersonal and lack life. Yet, the word of God was life. This is a mystery, a beautiful mystery. Jesus so lived His Father’s words, He was His Father’s words. We find that hard because we are so independent. If God’s word lived in us and filled us and our hearts were bent on being it, we would understand.

We want freedom without a cost. However, there is a cost for total freedom, surrender to all of Jesus. For example, imagine we were caught in a flood and are hanging onto a piece of wood to stay afloat. A rescuer comes and say, “let go now, I have you!” Would we trust them and let go of our survival technique and trust their rescue? I hope we would. Fear would try and stop us but total relief in being saved would cause us to let go.

Jesus comes to us and says, “let go of your own efforts to save yourself and trust me!” We must let go and trust! He is totally trustworthy. Amen!

God is our example. Forgiveness must be the centre of our attitude. If it is at the centre then annoyance and offence at others is overridden with generosity. Guard your heart

Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭TPT‬‬ I want to focus on the last sentence here, because it is explains why the first. I have an old friend who used to say to me, “Di let peace be your governor”. It was easier said than done. I was going through some very difficult times when he told me that. However, he was right. Yesterday was a difficult day in part. I had determined to give my body a day of rest. I walked several kilometres to church and attended the prayer meeting. Unfortunately, after the prayer meeting I was best by refugees wanting my help. It became very frustrating and by the time the service started my insides were a mess. The Good News

“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”  Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Back in 1974, I turned 21. For my birthday my husband to be gave me a Bible with this verse underlined. In 1974 we were all on fire and wanting to share the gospel of Christ. It is still a potent verse today.  Why did Paul write this verse? In verse 14 he wrote: ‘I am obligated both to Greeks and babarians. Who were Babarians? Not the Romans, but rather the people of Spain and Asia Minor. Again why did he write verse 16? Why would he be ashamed of the gospel? A crucified Jew being God seemed strange to Roman ears. The Romans despised the Jews. Those crucified were the lowest of low in society.  Onky the Holy Spirit could make any testimony powerful, and this He did.
