Baby Believers

Brothers, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies I Christ. I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, because you were not yet ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready, because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and living like unbelievers? 1Cor 3:1-3 What an indictment! The desire of a leader is that those they lead are growing and maturing. When this does not happen those they lead become a drain and need rebuking. This is exactly what Paul is having to do to the Corinthians. When the rebuke works there is joy in the repentance that ensues but where there is a continuation of sinful behaviour then there is a distance created and an unwillingness to carry the burden of the people. When the leader moves on the people who will not change can become offended. A tough life being a leader. Each of us must watch how we walk, with insight and a sensitivity to the Spirit. Each of...

Spiritual People

The unbeliever does not welcome what comes from God's Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is.not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually. The spiritual person, however, can evaluate everything, yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. For: who has known the Lord's mind that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Cor 2:14-16 What makes an unbeliever judge God as foolish? Self focus and the belief my judgement is flawless. I see our world full of noise. It is rushing, at a violent speed, towards eternity without the awareness that eternity is made for spiritual beings. What will the natural man look like in a world dominated by spirits? The spirit world does not bow to man or the flesh, for to enter eternity you enter through death of the flesh. Does the fleshly man recognise his spirit? Probably not! It is all about me, myself and I. We are enough here. But they cannot go into eternity. The you that goes into eternity is the sp...

Holy Spirit

Now God has revealed these things to us by the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man that is in him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. 1Cor 2:10,11 I cannot understand God by my natural thinking. He must be revealed to me by the Holy Spirit. This same Holy Spirit who resides in me, searches the mind of God continually for the latest update. Much like the internet, constantly searching and learning and imparting. But, unlike the internet, the Holy Spirit has no flaws, no corruption and I can trust Him with my life, my mind, my heart. He will not lead me astray. Isn't it so good that the Holy spirit choose to abide in me and provide me with the latest in God. I am kept up to date wit...

Wisdom in Waiting

However, we do speak a wisdom among the mature, but not a wisdom of this age, or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. On the contrary, we speak God's hidden wisdom in a mystery, a wisdom God predestined before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: 'What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind- God prepared this for those who love Him. 1Cor 2:6-9 I love the above verse 9 :'What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind- God prepared this for those who love Him. This comes from the book of Isaiah, 64:4 It actually says: From ancient times no one has heard, no one has listened, no eye has seen God except You, who acts on behalf of the one who waits for You. The key to me is to wait on God. I constantly have desperate cries in my hear...

He is Still the Same Today

When I came to you, brothers, announcing the testimony of God to you, I did not come with brilliance, of speech or wisdom. For I did not think it was good to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I came to you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. My speech and proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a powerful demonstration by the Spirit, so that your faith might not be based on men's wisdom but on God's power. 1Cor 2:1-5 I find it hard to believe the Paul I know was in fear and trembling. Yet, considering the amount of times he had been beaten, scourged, stoned and abused for the gospel, it might have been realistic. what is amazing is that he kept going, fueled by the Spirit. The fact that such a great man had been in fear and trembling, I am encouraged in the times I am also in fear and trembling. How good is God to sustain and strengthen us. Paul knew that the seekers of signs and wisdom needed the truth of the g...

Apart From Him, I am Nothing

Brothers, consider your calling: not many are wise from a human perspective, not many are powerful, not many of noble birth. Instead God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world- what is viewed as nothing- to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one can boast in His presence. But it is from Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became God-given wisdom for us-our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, in order that, as it is written: 'The one who boasts must boast in the Lord.' 1 Cor 1: 26-31 Oh how I know this scripture in myself. God chose a path for me that is filled with high flying salesmen and women, I am not. What I have is a heart that cares for my clients. What I have is despised because it has not made me rich monetarily but made me rich in relationships. Yet, this is the path he has me on an...

The Gospel-Foolishness to the Perishing Life to the Called

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is God's power to us who are being saved. For it is written: 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the experts.' Where is the philosopher? Where is the scholar? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn't God made the world's wisdom foolish? For since, in God's wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of the message preached. For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles. Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is God's power and God's wisdom, because God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. I think we are seeing the fall of democracy. Allowing the people to rule through the...
