Sin and Sinlessness

Image
Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that He appeared so that He might take away our sins, and in Him is no sin. No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or know Him. 1john 3:4-6 There it is folks, it is possible to not sin. How? Living in Him! How? Make Him your life source, your everything, let there be no other solution, for anything, other than Christ. We are told sin is lawlessness. Any area of my life that is not submitted to Him operates in sin. Be it finances, eating, drinking, talking, thinking, loving, driving, how we treat others, how we treat ourselves. If I continue to live lawlessly I show I do not know Him. How do I get to know Him? Spend time with Him, read His word, pray, sing, worship. Here is the rub! Where your treasure is; there is your heart! Tonight, again, capped a day spent with family. We went to a Koala park, shopped and then returned home to light a fire and s...

Hope Purifies

Image
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 1John 3:2,3 A desire to be pure comes from really knowing the hope within us. The more I know Him the more I want to be clean. Hopelessness opens the door to sin. How do we find hope? Get to know Him. We all watch people around us change as they fall in love. Falling in love happens as a person spends time with the object of their affection. If I make Him the object of my affection and then spend time with Him, I see His holiness, and begin to desire His purity in my own life. I have this hope within me, all I have to do is unpack it. This past week I had a grandson who had in the past been aloof give me spontaneous hugs, he was saying I love you nan. My youngest granddaughter did not know me well and as a result she was d...

Continue in Him

And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of Him. 1john 2:28,29 Well I have had a challenging time doing what John recommends. Have you ever had someone in your world you manage to upset and it is all a big misunderstanding? Yes I thought so, we all do! Oh how my flesh just wanted to get the bat out and fight, in defense of course. I am constantly aware that Christ must rule my motives. Each time I come to the word and allow it to cleanse me I am better for it. Each time I avoid it I am the worse for it and nothing but a big mess is created. I must abide, abide means I establish my home in Him and that I live out of that home and nowhere else. He alone is righteous, He alone is holy. His ways must prevail. The only answer is grace. Amen!

Remain in Him

Image
I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But His anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit- just as it has taught you, remain in Him. 1John 2:26,27 When we accept Christ all of Him comes in. The challenge is to remain in Him. Offense is one of the tools of the enemy, he is a liar and a cheat and comes to rob and steal. He whispers lies into a heart that is insecure and causes a reaction, that reaction is usually against another, at times quite an innocent individual. When that person has the reaction spill all over them the injustice and wrongness of the spill causes them to react and a chain reaction takes place. As a Christian I can go to Christ and allow Him to help me process instead of sitting and rehearsing what I would like to say. Yes this in itself can be a challenge because we want to ...

Truth Knows No Lie

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. I Do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist- he denies the Father and the Son. 1John 2:20-22 The apostle John is writing to the church at around 90 AD. There were people who had been a part of the church go out from the church with their own gospel based on works. Whenever we deny the power of the cross we take a stand against what Jesus died for. If my righteousness has anything to do with my self effort, in my own mind, I am mistaken. I miss the point and act as an Antichrist. No I am no the Antichrist but his spirit takes hold. The apostle John states that his readers know and have the truth. What is that truth? That Jesus is the Christ, He has all the power and He came from the Father. In other words He is God! ...

Stay in Truth

See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us- eternal life. I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 1 John 2:24-26 Many receive Christ, with joy. On Sunday I attended my son's church at Logan in Brisbane. I saw many go forward for salvation after hearing a message about the three little pigs, it was a children's service. My eldest grandson was up on stage in the children's choir, as was my youngest grandson. The pastor spoke about the three types of people: the fool who says in his heart there is no God; the Christian who becomes deceived; and lastly the Christian who builds his life on the rock, a good solid foundation, Christ, and goes on to maintain his Christianity. It was a simple, yet effective message, one that my 6 year old grandson listened to and could talk about at dinner that night. Yet there was ...

The Secret

The world and it's desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. 1John 2:17 Here is the secret! Eternal life awaits the one who dares to do the will of God. You might ask, "well then, what is the will of God?" Glad you asked! The will of God is: 1) accept His Son's sacrifice as being sufficient and the only way, no dabbling in self effort 2) walk daily aware of Him, seek Him, pray, read His word 3) live in Him and walk in this world, in Him 4) look at Him and not yourself, He is the way, the provider, the answer, walk humbly knowing it is not all about you, He has a bigger plan. It is only when as are captured by thoughts about how our life would be if only we have ..... Are we caged in the love if the world, the lusts of the flesh and the pride of life kicks in when we foolishly think we did it all. Hah! Stay humble, there is real safety there! Amen!

What do I Love?

Do not love the things of the world. Anyone who loves the world does not have the love of the Father in him. For all that is in the world: the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride of life, is not from the Father but from the world. 1john 2:15-17 Ok, at first glance we would wonder what on earth John is talking about. Why this is the day when we rescue whales off the beach, we have nature shows all about our beautiful world and we can't love it? Fortunately John goes on to explain. The following verses tell us: 'the desires of the flesh; the desires of the eye and the pride of life.' What are the desires of the flesh? Perhaps food, clothes, cars, stuff? Where are we fed these things? TV? Media? What are the desires of the eyes? Lust for a man or a woman? Where do we get fed these images? Mmm! Same! The pride of life: we'll that is how good am I! Without Christ? I know as I focus on Him my desire is for Him and everythin...

Walking Light

The one who says he is in the light but hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and doesn't know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1john 1:9-11 What do I learn from this? I cannot deceive myself into thinking it is ok to be offended, with anyone. Recently I had been living with a brother, a sibling, and he was not pleasant to live with and I had to leave. Yet, two days ago we met downtown and I knew I loved him still and had forgiven him. I found myself wondering at the power of Christ in me. I am grateful for grace, for without it I would be powerless. This brother has upset another sister and she has a different attitude, mainly because she does not know Christ, yet. Without Christ I would be just the same. As a Christian I have the power to forgive and why...

Walking in Truth

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in Him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. John 2:3-5 Here is my litmus test. If I truly keeping His word then I am coming to know Him more and more, I understand His love, bask in it, in fact bathe in it. He no longer tells me what to do and my greatest concern is that I choose well. This month is generally giving month for building funds in churches. I knew it was coming and was prayerfully considering what I should give. I never know exactly what I should give until a moment in time and then I know. On Sunday I put in an offering still not knowing, waiting. That afternoon I happened to check my emails. I was to receive above and beyond what I expected in commissions. This enable me to add a 0 to the figure and also to pay ...

The Cleansing Power

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1john:5-7 I am so grateful that God is light and that there is no darkness in Him. When I come into His presence any shadow in me is exposed and leads me to repentance. To have fellowship with Him, I first need to be clean and repentance washes me. I deceive myself if I think I can walk into His presence in filth and stay that way when I walk out. It just does not compute. If I come into the presence of purity, it calls to me to take a bath. Simple things like self pity make us dirty, a bad attitude will do it every time. Any form of selfishness muddies the water, but oh the joy of repentance, what a show...

Wisdom and Understanding

"From where then does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the birds of the air. Destruction and Death say, 'we have heard a report about it with our ears'. God understands its way, and He knows it's place. For He looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heavens, to establish a weight for the wind, and apportion the waters by measure. When He made a law for the rain, and a path for the thunderbolt, Then He saw wisdom and declared it; He prepared it, indeed, He searched it out. And to man He said, 'behold the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.' Job 27:20-28 Poetry adds colour to your soul. One day I will invite Job to dinner, what an honour that will be to make friends with such an ancient man. Yesterday, the second day in my new office, a young man came to know the truth about Christ. That was an honour indeed...

Faithful and True

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. John 20:30,31 The gospel of John is an eye witness's testimony of what he saw and heard. As with any testimony there is much that can be said but there are the facts that show the picture. John was showing the heart of Christ and he did this well as he himself was a heart man. I have a cousin who is a heart man, his name is David or Dave as we know him. Last week I saw him for the first time since I was 16, a long time. Dave is still a heart man and for that I am truly grateful. John wrote three epistles and the Book of Revelation. I could imagine Dave doing that. He is a faithful, true man who also happens to be a teacher. I am testifying about a cousin and yet my testimony about my Lord is about a faithful, true Lord...

Forgiveness of Sin

If you forgive the sins off any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any they are retained. John 20:23 This scripture comes after two things: 1) the commission in verse 21; 2) the breath of Christ imparting the Holy Spirit in verse 22. Forgiveness is a huge but vital subject. The sense of the text it has been understood to refer to the preaching of the gospel of grace. Those who receive it gladly will find their sins forgiven and those who reject it will find themselves unforgiven. However, me, myself an I have the power, also, to not forgive. When I am wronged I can label the wrongdoer as an abuser, bully, thief, and the list goes on. I can then go out into my world and plaster that label all over the place, advertising that person's sin. Conversely, I can keep my mouth shut and release God to be God and see what He can do. As in all facets of my life I can choose to confess poverty, sickness, inability or I can confess God. He alone is go...

Breath of God

So Jesus said to them again, "peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, " receive the Holy Spirit". John 20:21,22 Imagine how the disciples would be feeling. In the matter of days they saw their teacher arrested and treated shamefully and nailed to a cross. They had thought it was all over. Coming to terms with their grief was interrupted with news that Jesus' body had disappeared and now here He is standing in their midst. Now He was telling them that they had to go like He did. I wonder if they were thinking 'the cross' and reliving it's horrors. They were in hiding for fear if the Jews. I am someone who is slow to process. I take in the information, especially difficult or painful information, and it has to work it's way down into my 'knower' and then I get it. When I don't have time to process I struggle. I am sure that there...

Why Are You Weeping

Jesus said to her (Mary), "woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" she, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, "sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" she turned and said to Him, "Rabboni!" (which means teacher) John 20:15,16 In the crises of life emotion runs high and precludes vision. Jesus was known to Mary but she anticipated a dead Christ and therefore did not recognize Him as the Jesus she knew. I have to trust my Lord to be there all the time and to have the answers, all the time. My state of mind or heart may prevent me from seeing or hearing but by taking time to seek Him I can bring my world into perspective. I have had decisions to make about offices, telephone systems and plans, spending time with my mother, spending time with the woman I am flatting with, caring for my dogs, caring for my new employee, keeping my ...

Loved

Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and the other disciple, who Jesus loved, and said to them, "they have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him". John 20:1,2 Here are three people who Jesus loved, only one knew he was loved, John freely describes himself as 'the disciple who Jesus loved.' The love Jesus gave was more than human love, it is called Agape love. This love is full of grace and power and enables those who are loved to flourish. John basked in this love. Mary and Peter received it but did not fully understand it. Agape love empowers, lifts up, overcomes offense, injury, insult. John saw this love in action and appreciated it, flowed with it, stayed in it. In John 14 and 15 Jesus taught she disciples about abiding in this love. This love is the calm amid...

It is Finished

So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "it is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19:30 Completion of the task God has given is satisfying. Jesus had taken 12 disciples and trained them. He lost Judas the betrayer but none others. There were many more, who because of their fear, hid their faith. In verse 38-42 two men who belonged to the Sanhedrin came and took the body of Christ and prepared it for burial. When I was in Wodonga in the early part if the year I knew my time to leave had come. It was so final, all I had been given to do I had done and I was pleased with the outcome. However I was unsure of where to next, my natural mind was in the way. I went looking for where it would be. After having done the research I made a decision, trusting my God to guide me. I have returned to Tamworth NSW to complete what was unfinished. I left before I saw the Kingdom of God established here in the work I had been given to do. I must fini...

I Thirst

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst." Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "it is finished!" and bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 18:28-30 I find it very interesting that in verse 28, that the words 'I thirst' came after 'after this, Jesus, knowing that all things were accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled.' What are the significance if these words? In other renditions of the same story the words ,'my God, my God why have You forsaken me' are included. Yet John, who was there, did not include them. We can thirst for many things and I could well imagine Jesus being thirsty. He had lost a lot of blood and not had anything to drink for a good while. Often tied up in our natur...

Character

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus: His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "woman, behold your son!" Then He said to His disciple, "Behold your mother!" and from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. John 19:25-27 In agony, dying, Jesus takes time to organize His affairs. The Israelites had protocol in regard to caring for family. Mary has other sons but Jesus is giving her to John to care for. Does this mean they were related or is Christ superseding the OT way with a New Way? We know John had a special relationship with Jesus, John loved at a deeper level and was loved in return. He did not make a loud noise, he was not out front beating a drum, he quietly and consistently loved. I took my mum to see Salmon Fishing in Yemen, last night. It was the second time I had been and later I w...

All Things

And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the centre. Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. John 19:17-18 The title was Pilate's ironical way of paying the Jews back for cornering him into crucifying an innocent man. However, it represented the truth. Jesus had told Pilate: "you would have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above." The Jews did not like the title but Pilate said, "what I have written, I have written." The final word was truth even through an ungodly man. So Pilate had, unwittingly come to truth, even though he had said to Jesus, "what is truth" (18:38) In all that I experience and endure I can trust my Lord to have the last word. He alone is God and as I allow Him to be God and not strive to bring to pass what I believe is ...

Beautiful One

Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe and Pilate said to them, "behold the Man!" Therefore when the chief priests and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, "crucify Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "you take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him." The Jews answered him, "we have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God." Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid.. John19:5-8 The Jews wanted the blood of Christ because they were filled with hatred, yet they needed the blood of Christ to set them free. Who knows how many came to repentance as the story unfolded. Hatred is stirred up by the unseen enemy of our souls. Over the last few weeks I saw the growing hatred of my real enemy. His purpose was to destroy me, make me run and walk away from what is mine. I chose to stay and believe I have passed ...

Kingdom Builder

Pilate therefore said to Him (Jesus), "are you a king then?" Jesus answered, "you say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice." Pilate said to Him, "what is truth?"John 18:38,39 Jesus had a cause. He did not say he came to build a church movement, contest the Pharisees but merely to bear witness to the truth. Jesus said "everyone who is of the truth hears my voice." Pilate shows where he stands when he says, "what is truth?" he obviously was not of the truth. Each one of us is presented with truth. It is what we do with it that counts. The world's truth is get, take and keep. The Kingdom truth is give, release and bless. Jesus was about to give His life so that we could know the Father like He did, in spirit and in truth. What is my 'cause'? What is yours?...

Coping with Failure

And Simon Peter followed Jesus (after His arrest) and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest. But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought Peter in. Then the servant girl who kept the door said to Peter, "you are not also one of this man's disciples, are you?" he said, "I am not". John 18:15-17 Here are two disciples who knew their Lord. One was known to the high priest, the other not. We know the one who was known was John. Having been known to the high priest did not appear to trouble John yet not being known troubled Peter and caused him to deny the obvious. Have you ever felt out of your depth and thus behave in an untrue manner? We are all caught at times and it is in those times when we are uncomfortable we behave contrary to how we would other...

The Big Picture

Image
Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. So Jesus said to Peter, "put your sword into its sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?" John 18:10,11 Earlier in the night Jesus had told His disciples that they would desert Him. Here we see Peter doing what He considered 'staying with Jesus' meant to him. Peter had resorted to the natural (or flesh). Peter reacted and did not regard the big picture. In verse 8 Jesus asked the soldiers to let His disciples go. Peter's action brought forward ramifications, he could have also been arrested or worse killed. Jesus had plans for Peter, way ahead of this moment in time, he would die for Christ but yet, he had much to do. Jesus shows us that although things seem awful bad, there is a plan and it is important we stick with the plan. I left my brother's house yesterday as ...

Protection

Protect them by Your name that You have given Me, so that they may be one as We are One. While I was with them I was protecting them by Your name that you have given Me.... I am not praying that You take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of this world, as I am not of this world. . John 17:11b,12, 15,16 Jesus talks about a name of protection, I followed a reference and it brought me to Prov 18:10: The name of Yahweh is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are protected. Do you feel vulnerable and open to attack? Lately, every weekend as I prepare to minister I am attacked by a nasty critical, condemning spirit via a person in my life. I have spoken into the spirit a different outcome, confessing blessing and favour yet the nasty beast still speaks. In the above scripture Jesus is telling me I have a place of refuge in Yahweh, I am blessed. I am stepping out, believing for abundant favour and today...

Kingdom Come!

"Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son so that the Son may glorify You, for You gave Him authority over all flesh, so that He might give eternal life to all You have given Him. This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent -Jesus Christ." John 17:1-3 Yesterday I travelled to the town where I was born, a small place of not much significance to visit an elderly aunt along with another elderly aunt, it was an ancient day. We talked about their old times, times before I was on the scene. We ate together and had good family time, all the while I was waiting for the Lord and what He had to say -nothing. After lunch I went to visit very old friends and spent time looking at their world, they were retired and spent time collecting antiques. While I could appreciate their world I did not want it. While there I discovered that a man I had known, another friend, had died horribly at the hands of cancer. I met his son who l...

Joy Comes in the Morning

"I assure you, you will weep and wail, but the world will rejoice. You will become sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy. When a woman is in labour she has pain because her time has come. But when she has given birth to a child, she no longer removers the suffering because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also have sorrow now. But I will see you again. Your hearts will rejoice, and no one will rob you of your joy. In that day you will not ask me anything." John 16:20-23 Been through difficult times? Dark times? Times of weeping and wailing! The above scripture holds a promise. After the pain and anguish comes joy, joy that no one can take away. My hope is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth, My strength is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (song) I have had two childbirth experiences. I know of what Jesus speaks. The pain is so intense you think you are going to die, but you don't and t...

Spirit Guide

"When the Spirit of truth comes He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is mine and will declare it to you." John 16:12 Notice 'He will guide you into all truth', it did not say condemn or judge or demand. The Holy Spirit is not called 'holy' for nothing. Holy means 'set apart'. The Holy spirit comes knowing His brief, there is no ego, or self in Him. A good spirit to send. He will speak whatever he hears, a good listener, listening to the voice that matters, the author of life not the spoilt baby going 'waa, waa'. (Talking about myself here) He will declare what is to come, so He is prophetic. The Holy Spirit sees tomorrow and beyond. He speaks the seed of God into our lives and tells us what the result will look like. He will glorify Jesus, He will honour the One who...
