Both of these gifts have almost disappeared from the church, not because they have been withdrawn, but because they are not used. In my own personal walk I have to consciously pray in the Spirit, but in worship at church I tend to sing in the Spirit at times. Not so loud that the whole church must listen, but for my own personal edification.
At home I must choose to sing in the Spirit or pray. When I interceed I pray in the Spirit. I think the times I willfully choose to pray in the Spirit I have the breakthroughs I need. There are times we just need to decide, I will praise my God with tongues.
Prophesy is something I can do, and perhaps should seek more. My church does not encourage people prophesying in church and therefore we are less inclined to use the gift. However, the times I do prophesy over an individual they are blessed.
Now days we see more the minister up front do the prophesying, mainly because they like order and what used to happen was disorderly. I was saved during such a time and yes some people prophesied regularly and some were fruity to say the least. However, there were also good prophesies brought forth. I would like more. Amen!
The whole of this chapter deals with tongues, it's use and an urging, by Paul, to seek prophesy so that the whole church could be edified. Obviously there was disorder in the service. He did not disallow the use of tongues and interpretation but merely brought order through teaching.
