Therefore, dear friends, since we have such promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, completing our sanctification in the fear of God. 2 Cor 7:1
We tend to think of our need to cleanse ourselves of fleshly appetites but I don't know I have ever noticed a need to cleanse our spirit before, but, it is only right. If we really think, we would realise that each time we deify ourselves, or others, we have brought another god into our temple and therefore become spiritually unclean.
It is important we are sensitive to the Holy a spirit and allow Him to show us the state of our spirits because that is where the life is, in our spirits. Jesus taught that brackish and pure water cannot flow out form the same place, one will dominate.
Yet, we live as if both can cohabit, and they can't, thus the tension.
Today I went to see the third Hobbit movie. In it one of the key characters, Thorrin, was corrupted by his lust for gold. He had to come to a place of repentance and when he did he was formidable. The Christian is a formidable foe for our enemy Satan, when we stay sanctified.
As we shower daily it is wise to shower our spirit at least daily. Amen
