Whole People

We also pray that you become fully mature. 2 Cor 13:9b

Maturity in Christ, what does that look like? Is it a person who is serious all the time and cannot have fun? Is it a recluse? Is it someone who is whole and has a whole understanding of the truth?

Natural maturing is assumed as a person ages. Yet I know many who are not. I, myself, have kept the ability to play like a child, this comes in handy with grandchildren. Does this make me immature? I am sure there would be some who think it is. Yet my grandchildren appreciate it, and so do I.

I have a friend my age who is always joking. Now I struggle with this, but make myself stand back and look deeper. To be honest I can lighten up at times, so can you.

So what is a mature Christian? I quietly think they are the rare breed of person who is whole inside and out, that Christ is given full reign and His word is king. Am I being too generous? Over Simplistic?

I know in relating to people our personality also kicks in. A whole sanguine is a not a whole choleric or phlegmatic. So therefore I cannot pass judgement on a whole phlegmatic because they are not like me, I am a mixed berry breed with a healthy dose of choleric and melancholic, with a little of the others thrown in for good measure. How about you?

You will not know a person is mature until you spend time with them, be prepared to be challenged. That is what relationships are all about.
