Glory to God

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Luke 2:13‭-‬14 NIV

The first people to know about Jesus' birth, outside that of His family, were these shepherds. Why did God choose shepherds? Was there another David in their midst? Was this because Jesus Himself would later call Himself the Good Shepherd and God had honour for shepherds? Was it because He chose the humble to begin with? Was there a praying shepherd in their midst? We may never know, until eternity at least.

What does this fact say to us? God love the simple and lowly and ignored the proud. Jesus did not have much time for the proud. Yet the next to come were three wise men from the east. They were not Jews yet they saw a star that had significance to them. They knew a newborn king was coming and came thousands of miles to worship this newborn king. Why did God show heathen men about His Son? Perhaps because God loves all mankind and these were the first fruits of the gentiles that would come?

These two examples of God reaching outside the norm and drawing those we would not consider, shows us God's goodness and love for all. He does not discriminate. How good is our God? I am grateful that He chose the Gentile for His inheritance. We are allowed in. Amen!
