who owns the heart?

For in it God’s righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith. Romans 1:17 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/rom.1.17.HCSB The righteous shall live by faith, not manipulation, pushing self forwards saying look at me! Righteousness is found in death to fleshly cravings for glory and prominence. I can know this but not practice this! Why?? The revelation has not captured my heart yet. My heart still belongs to self. Have mercy Lord!!!

the gospel

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it God’s righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith. Romans 1:16‭-‬17 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/rom.1.16-17.HCSB God's righteousness, His way of being right, is revealed through the gospel. The word 'gospel means good news. What is this good news? The news about Jesus being God's answer for the penalty of sin, and His answer for the need of a new way to live. Sin was the problem. It prevented us from coming to God. It broke fellowship with God. Sin is doing things our way, the selfish way. Repentance and asking Jesus to be our saviour and Lord is us accepting God's way. God 's way through the gospel is good news indeed. It is a river in the desert, a cool breeze in the hot sun, a shady tree. It is warmth in the cold, refreshing to the tired and weary. Go...

come alive

One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:10 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/rom.10.10.HCSB Believing in the heart produces righteousness, confession with the mouth produces salvation. Two different things and places produces two different things but both are needed for a new Christian, and an ongoing growing Christian. Believing and confession work together to produce the Lord's desired son or daughter. Paul said at the beginning of the book of Romans: for I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is God's power for salvation to everyone who believes, first the Jew, then the Greek. (1:14) Being willing to share the gospel means we are not ashamed of it. Sharing the gospel is a confession of our mouths. Come alive, come alive, come alive dry bones. Jesus is the life! Amen!

believing and saying

One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:10 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/rom.10.10.HCSB Believing impacts the depth of who we are.  It is not a cursory event, but rather a life changing ongoing process. My beliefs are evident in my life. If I believe Jesus is my saviour, I will act like it rather than behave as if I am my own saviour. Confession also is an ongoing process. Whilst I might initially come to Christ and confess Him as saviour,  I show Him as Lord by the ongoing confessions of my mouth. So, both believing and confession are ongoing and life changing processes. Amen!

what you have seen

Do what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/php.4.9.HCSB A good leader encourages you to emulate them. They are a good role model. Whereas, bad leaders leave those beneath them determined not to behave like them. However,  to find a good role model they will have to seek out that person. It would have been much better for that model to have been there already. I see sons determined not to be like their dads. Yet, being not like their dads is harder  unless someone else gives them the pattern. Paul had been a good leader and provided a good role model.  He had the right to encourage the Philippian Church to follow his lead. Be a good model! Amen!

heaven or hell?

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die — ever. Do you believe this? ” John 11:25‭-‬26 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/jhn.11.25-26.HCSB Max Stahl, film producer, died today after a long battle with cancer. Whilst we may revere him as a good bloke, how will God see him? I don't have that answer,  but I know today he faced the Lord. Was it a shock, was it a warm welcome, was it horrifying? Each of us will face this same experience. No matter what others think of us, in eternity it is what the Lord thinks that matters. It is the one who does the will of the Father who will be welcomed in. On earth we may be caught living to please ourselves or our fans, but what about our eternal Lord? Lazarus, Jesus friend died, but was raised again by Christ. Both of Lazarus' sisters believed in eternity and that they would see their brother in God's kingdom, but Jesu...

the resurrection and life

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die — ever. Do you believe this? ”John 11:25‭-‬26 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/jhn.11.25-26.HCSB Jesus was speaking these words to his good friend Martha as He arrives to find Martha's brother dead in a tomb. He was about to raise Lazarus from the dead and was establishing Martha's faith. Martha's responds with: "Yes Lord," she told Him,  " I believe You are the Messiah, the Son of God, who comes into the world." However, previously Martha had chided Jesus for being late with, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother wouldn't have died. Yet even now I know that whatever You ask from God, God will give You." Next Martha's sister Mary came and the conversation was similar. Jesus became angry in spirit and deeply moved. He asked where they had placed Lazarus. When there He comman...

flattery

“Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves. Matthew 10:16 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/mat.10.16.HCSB Would a shrewd person be susceptible to flattery? No! Would a shrewd person use flattery? Perhaps! It depends of the level of awareness of Christ in their lives. There are many unsaved, but shrewd people, just as there are many saved but unethical people. What am I saying? We are urged to be shrewd in dealing with people. I am reminded as to how Paul addressed people he wished to impress with the gospel. He was wise but also complementary. Was that wrong? Always, God will judge our motives. I cannot say, I was not there and I am not God. However,  I need to be mindful of my own motives, always! Do I flattery for personal gain, to manipulate a sale or am I flattering to open a mind to potential in Christ? This is the crux of the matter, intention. This is what I will be judged on, not glorious ideals. Amen!

sheep among wolves

“Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves. Matthew 10:16 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/mat.10.16.HCSB Wolves are predators of sheep. Sheep are not fighters, they grow wool, eat grass and produce offspring. They are the most unlikely animals to send out among wolves. Yet Jesus tells them to be wise as serpents, and as gentle as doves. Here Jesus is telling them not to be dumb as sheep, but cunning as snakes, yet applying the gentleness of doves. An unusual mix. The whole of this chapter 10 is Jesus instructing the 12 apostles in going out to minister to the towns and villages. His instruction is right down to what not to take, as in spare clothing. He instructs them not to ask for money. As Judas was one of those going out, this may have been for him, as he liked the gold. Jesus instructs them where to stay. They were to stay in the houses of those they went to minister to. For the longest time visiting ministry wou...

more compassion

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. Psalms 103:13 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/psa.103.13.HCSB Today I experienced compassion, and am very grateful. I had a fall and landed on grass and did not injure myself. My dog chewed up one of my hearing aids. The replacement went from over $300 to zero. So grateful! My uni study today was aboriginal culture and I love it. The assignments allow for creativity. Yes! This is me!!! My connect group needed to be moved to Wednesday night. All agreed! Grateful! I am reading a John Bevere book in my spare time. Blessed!

compassionate

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. Psalms 103:13 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/psa.103.13.HCSB Do you respect and fear the Lord? Then God's compassion is upon you. Things might be tough but He knows that tough times creates strong character. He also knows that as you endure through the battles you will be experienced, and know you can do this.  Tough times do not last. All things are for a season. When that season is over times of refreshing flows. Yes you may long for refreshing, and see others walking in it, but your turn is coming, and when it does you will be blessed indeed. Amen!

keep at it

“Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/mat.7.7.HCSB Perseverance is important. Hebrews 10:36 tells we have need of endurance so that we might prove the will of the Father, and receive what has been promised. Perseverance is not for the faint of heart, however, it is the making and strengthening factor that, if applied to character, produces a godly result. In regard to family relationships I have persevered and persevered and persevered and am seeing a good result. Praise God! The tide is turning! Today I started term 3 back at uni. I know that I will need to persevered once again. Good results came at the end of last term, enjoyment and determination won the day. Amen!

keep asking

“Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/mat.7.7.HCSB Keeping on asking, knocking, seeking are godly attributes; giving up and walking away are not. I can still hear my children begging, beseeching me to be allowed to have or do something that was important to them. If it would not harm them, or someone else, I would consider.  I have 7 grandchildren. The youngest, Ollie, is especially good at this. He has a winsome face and knows how to work it to his advantage.  However, allowing his face to beat my resistance down in a matter that would hurt him would be catastrophic.  As a responsible adult I could not go there. When my sons children turn 12 I take them on a holiday just the two of us together. At this time I have to be conscious of protecting my grandchild, whilst having fun. I am sure that God weighes this in the balance with us as well...

what are you watching?

Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the Lord’s decree will prevail. Proverbs 19:21 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/pro.19.21.HCSB We might believe that all is lost, that the darkness is winning,  but then we must ask: who are you listening to? If I watch reports from Daniel Kolenda in Africa, I know God is moving in a mighty way. If I spend time watching secular TV I believe darkness is winning. So, really, what are you watching? Turn off the box, tune into God and His people and allow that to be the voice. Remember Jesus said: abide in Me and I will abide in you. (John 15)

Godly dreams

Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the Lord’s decree will prevail. Proverbs 19:21 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/pro.19.21.HCSB We have been given a wonderful imagination,  and we may dream many wonderful things, however, we must be willing to submit them to God's workings in our lives. I see a day when no aircraft are needed and being able to walk into a portal between places and arrive. I know in God's economy this will happen,  but it will not happen without Him. This si an example of imagination and dream of things that could be. We can imagine more earthly dreams, of restoration of health, family and finances, and in God's time it is so. He is the power, the authority and the creator, all things are possible in Him. We must dare to dream and submit those dreams to Him. Amen!

quick to listen

My dearly loved brothers, understand this: Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, James 1:19 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/jas.1.19.HCSB Today I learnt two new games in which you had to be quick in recognising pairs amd not only that say the name of what was sought. It was a struggle for me. I could see a need to increase my cognitive awareness. This can be done through practice amd strong concentration. Being quick to hear is also an art, one learned through concentration and practice.  We can hear, but not hear. We must intentionally listen. Amen!

how to respond

My dearly loved brothers, understand this: Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for man's anger does not accomplish God's righteousness James 1:19,20 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/jas.1.19.HCSB What must we be quick to hear? Surely not the offensive words? Perhaps there is another hearing? How does God hear? He sees broken people behaving brokenly. Is it fear, hurt, rejection, or pride we hear? Jesus had compassion on the crowd because they were sheep without a shepherd. Would we see that? I have a friend behaving awkwardly because of COVID rules. He objects to having the vaccination.  Unfortunately, it is not a welcoming place for the unvaccinated. They are being isolated from fellowship because of government ruling. Facebook posts show the frustration of this friend and his family. When anger is expressed we are inclined to respond in kind. It is only the grace of God on our lives that enables us to hear and respond appropriately. Remember, ange...

treasure

“Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Matthew 6:19 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/mat.6.19.HCSB Treasure hunts are fun and popular. The quest to find the hidden treasure has many out with their metal detectors. My father had one. He was often out hunting for the elusive gold. He also tried water divining, to no avail. We had lots of laughs. In the early days of Australia gold fields many left employment in search of the yellow metal to make them rich. Many returned home as poor or poor than when they came. Jesus taught about treasure. He told a parable of man finding a pearl of.great price in a field.  He reburied it, goes and sells all he has and buys the field. Jesus taught that the treasure worthy of such an act is the kingdom of heaven. Nothing else will last into eternity. In the scripture above He talks about not collecting earthy treasure which can be stolen or destroyed but rather eternal treasur...

treasures

“Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Matthew 6:19 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/mat.6.19.HCSB Money is a tool to use,  much as a spade is. God's kingdom and its people are more important than hoarding treasures. The Bible Society has a push on to translate the bible into every language so that all men might hear the good news in their mother tongue. How can we draw back from God's plans to accumulate things for this life? We will have streets of gold in heaven, the city of God will be constructed of all precious jewels, the gates huge pearls. How can we be taken by a few trinkets here? How can we give our love to earthy treasures when the beauty of God is waiting? Seek first His kingdom and all these things will be added. Amen!

goodness and faithful love

Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live. Psalms 23:6 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/psa.23.6.HCSB I am grateful for this promise. I am particularly grateful that it doesn't come with a provision. The nature of grace is that it is unearned. Today I found foot and mouth disease, mine. I cannot believe I behave in such an aggressive manner, especially when pursuing order. I came away severely disappointed in myself, but not in my God. I suppose it does help to realise that what Paul said is true: there is no one good, not one.(Romans 3:12) I came home and realised there is a better way.  I went again tonight and was helpful and non-bossy! Praise God! This afternoon I had a pleasant surprise.  My nephew Alex knocked on the door wanting to know if I was willing to play basketball. Almost two hours later we stopped. I was then invited to dinner. We had great fun. Thank You Lord! What a bless...

mercy and grace

Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live. Psalms 23:6 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/psa.23.6.HCSB How can goodness and faithful love pursue me? Through the mercy and grace displayed at the cross. Only grace allows for the sinner to be loved, only mercy will set it free. The Lord is teaching me to live in mercy and grace, forsaking all bitterness and expectation that my enemies will falter. Jesus tells me to pray for my enemies. How can I do that? I will use an example. Last night I attended band practice and the guitarist struck me as angry and impatient.  I came away deciding to pray for him. I realised that I do not walk in his shoes and have not experienced his day. I am determined to pray God's best on this man. I had success with this the night before with a woman who was difficult. Straight away she messaged me to apologise. This showed me that prayer is more effective than building j...

what am I to be?

Yet Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are our potter; we all are the work of Your hands. Isaiah 64:8 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/isa.64.8.HCSB I actually tried pottery many years ago. Various things cause a lump of clay on a wheel to disfigure: impurities in the clay, not enough water, too much water, incorrect centring of the lump of clay and mishandling of the clay (due mostly to inexperience). Our God is a master potter. He handles our imperfections,  he has skill in the rest. When we are off centre, He centres us. Our job is to relax and submit to His hand. He knows what shape suits us best, and when formed we are dried and baked( not a pleasant thought!). Don't try and be a cup when you are a vase either! Amen!

we are the clay

And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand. Isaiah 64:8 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/isa.64.8.NLT Nick Vujicic would be forgiven for complaining that the Potter was drunk when he formed him, as he has no arms or legs. Yet, this young man has fathered children and is married to a beautiful woman. How can this be? He believed that God could use him, and He has. Nick has reached people whole people cannot with the gospel. Self pity lays many aside but when confronted by a person who denies it space, who swims, surfs and does many adventurous things even whole people will not dare to attempt,  they have to listen. Today, no matter where you find yourself, you have to believe God made you for a purpose. If you believe this and allow God room He will do great things through you. Amen!

patience

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/2pe.3.9.NLT Why is the Lord slow? I am sure that Moses, David, Daniel and Joseph all wondered about this. Moses was stuck in the backside of the desert for 40 years, David was chased by King Saul for around 13 years, Daniel spent his whole adult life in Babylon, Joseph was in captivity; first as a slave then as a prisoner. Yet all rose to great prominence, after suffering for a time. Abraham was called by God to go to a land He would show Abraham. He was promised a son. The son took 25 years to arrive. A whole lot of frustration went on between all these men, but God came through for each.  Do we have reason or a right to complain? We may think we have a reason, but when we consider all that these men went through, do we have a right? No! The solution: patie...

not slow at all

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/2pe.3.9.NLT Ever become frustrated over timing? Yes!!! However, God's timing is always a lot slower, as He can see what we cannot see. He has an external and internal view, and an eternal plan. However, the bible is full of stories about those who had to wait. We see that in the waiting they were proved, purified and made patient.  Perhaps we are on the same journey.  Hebrews 12:1  tells us that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses and should therefore, lay aside every weight  and sin that so easily ensnared us. Amen!

hidden things

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.4.23.NLT Today our former NSW premier goes on trial for her alleged awareness, and support of her former boyfriend in corrupt conduct. Our premier took our state through the COVID debarcle,  and now that we are in recovery, she is on trial. Many support her, however, the news reporters tonight were asking questions they previously kept to themselves. How quickly we can fall from grace if we are drawn aside into deception. I pray our premier is exonerated,  however, the truth will come out. Each one of us will face our God for all the things we had hidden in our hearts. What will that encounter look like?

guard your heart

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.4.23.NLT Why are we told to guard our hearts? Our hearts are the storehouses of our attitudes. When thoughts come in about others, sift them, take them to the Lord, ask what He wants us to do for them. We know how well we have guarded our hearts for under pressure what is in our hearts will come out. Attitudes are tied to reactions. If we become angry, we have allowed thoughts to change our attitudes to others. It seems that God only wants one thing to flow from out hearts, love. If love is required, then malicious thoughts and ideas will destroy love, they will turn our love to hate or indifference. Remember we are lights in a dark place. As Jesus said, if the light in us is dark then how deep is that darkness. He said, the eye is the lamp of the soul. (Luke 11:35)The eye is how we see and perceive others.

glory and power

And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.” Revelation 5:13 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/rev.5.13.NLT There are some conversations, speeches and lectures that inspire, some that put you to sleep. I would say that what John reported in verses are around  the above verse went into the record book as an awesome insight and revelation of Jesus in eternity, God the Father on the throne and the reverence and honour that was accorded them. I know Paul preached all night long once and  young man, seated on the windowsill, fell asleep and dropped to the ground. He died and Paul raised him from the dead, then went on preaching. I am not good with long, drawn out conversations let alone preaches. I would probably have been asleep as well. I know the disciples fell asleep on Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane when as...

blessing amd honour

And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.” Revelation 5:13 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/rev.5.13.NLT Our God is good and worthy to be praised. This verse is a reality check. We can be so consumed with now and what we are doing, or plan to do. We forget our God, and His eternal realm. He has His finger on the pulse, and is in complete control. Our minds need to live in eternal perspective. Today is the Lord's day. Today, especially today, we must give Him honour and praise. I am glad we earthlings have put some of these words to music.  Why not spend time in worship today? Amen!

controlled temper

Control your temper, for anger labels you a fool. Ecclesiastes 7:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/ecc.7.9.NLT Self-control deals with anger. Knowing why we become angry helps. Insight and understanding as to what are our buttons deals a blow to temper. When we know the why we are stirred up, we can deal with the outcome. Today I had to face a potential anger spot and because I went expecting it and was ready I handled it. I spoke frankly to the president of my astronomy club about my concerns without becoming angry. Then the troublemaker came and I dealt with that as well by being polite but not entertaining anger.

anger

Control your temper, for anger labels you a fool. Ecclesiastes 7:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/ecc.7.9.NLT Anger causes us to say and so unseemly things. It separates families and friends. It causes us to be seen as an angry fool. Not a good look! More importantly it separates us from God. The reason for this is, judgement and offense are usually party to anger, so are resentment, bitterness and strife. We find it hard to touch our loving God in such a prison.  However, he waits for us and causes others to pray for our release. It seems there is one place where I become angry the most, at the astronomy centre. I am going there today. I must pray over it. At the opening it was dedicated to aboriginal spirits. The locals do not see anything wrong with celebrating smoke festivals. However, a Christian aboriginal brother told us the significance. What causes us to become angry? Usually lying spirits inflaming us against others. This is why spiritual discernment is always important....

what a friend

A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. Proverbs 17:17 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.17.17.NLT I remember an old chorus: what a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear, what a privilege it is to carry, everything to Him in prayer (Joseph Scriven). The song was written in 1855 and is much longer. The point is we have a friend in Jesus.A more loyal friend who can find?  Only a few days ago did I have a discussion with a friend who seemed to be distant. I told her: "I understand you have many friends and I do not mind if you no longer have time for me". She apologised and said it was not the case, she had just been slack. This is often the case when we focus on our own comfort rather than looking outward. With Jesus He is never selfishly withdrawn. We can trust Him, rely on Him, depend on Him. Amen!

friends and brothers

A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. Proverbs 17:17 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.17.17.NLT I have friends and brothers. My friends usually want to do more fun stuff with me, whereas my brother who lives locally, helps with fixing things around the house. I have had friends help erect my garden shed, it was the funniest day in a long time. They had pieces of the shed all over the lawn. They eventually got there and I am grateful, however the fun was spectacular. Last Christmas I invited friends and my brother. My brother stayed long enough to eat then disappeared. My friends stayed until later playing games. Both of these groups fill an important role. My brother is an electrician and so he does electrical work for me. He will help me install a doggies door in my flyscreen door. For his pains I feed him and listen to his woes. My friends socialise with me. We all loves games, as in board games and cards. It is good to have both and important to...

two men

For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you. Isaiah 54:10 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/isa.54.10.NLT The Lord promises never to forsake or to leave. However, that does not necessarily mean that we, who receives His love, will do the same. This morning I awoke after  dream about two men. In the dream I was the pastor of a church. I saw my father behaving badly. He was removing the lining from his swimming costume so that it would not inhibit him, meanwhile a young man was photographing him. I was ashamed of him. The second man was in charge of the children's ministry.  He became angry and hid his anger towards someone else. I could see it and was dismayed that he had hid it rather than deal with it. I knew his attitude would impact on the children he attempted to minister to. Both of these men, I knew I must deal with. Hidden sin dest...

nothing, no nothing

For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you.Isaiah 54:10 NLT  https://bible.com/bible/116/isa.54.10.NLT I am reading Malachi at present, the people were fond of asking: "how have you loved us?" Yet, it was them who moved, who dishonoured their marriages and who robbed God of His tithe. These people remind me of our present age. The questions were all centered on self. Jesus told us in the gospel of John that God so loved the world that He sent His Son, that whoever believed on Him would not perish but have eternal life. Jn 3:16. This is how much He loves us. He wants us to share eternity with Him, not perish. Believing in Jesus and accepting Him as saviour ensures this. A small price for me for such huge gain in eternity. I am excited about eternity. I know the joy that awaits me. Amen!

indwelling

All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. 1 John 4:15 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.4.15.NLT I don't know if you know what a Kinder Surprise is, it is a chocolate hollow egg in which a toy is hidden. For obvious reasons it is a delight of children. For the Christian, our surprise is the wonderful Holy Spirit. As we open up our lives the Holy Spirit is made evident, He shines through us. He has gifts: He is wise, a healer, a speaker of various tongues, a discerner of spirits. We have God living in us, when we invite Christ into our lives. What a way to live! Amen!

living within

All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. 1 John 4:15 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.4.15.NLT Verse 13 tells us: this is how we know that we remain in Him and He in us: He has given assurance to us from His Spirit. (HCSB version) being given assurance by God is awesome. There are so many places that do not give affirmation,  or assurance, but God, the creator of all things chooses to do that for each of us. Think about this truth for a moment. The God who created the universe, knows what atoms go together, makes inception possible using a sperm and an egg, how cool is that? There is no room for condemnation or feeling of unworthiness here. Romans 8 tells us: there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. If you are feeling condemned it is not God doing it. You must, therefore, examine who it is. We are invited to live in God. Think about that! No! You are not bound to the house, the land you find yourself in, but h...

asking advice

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.3.5-6.NLT Seeking advice is not something we do enough. So many times we react,  jump in too soon, think we know the answer, don't think enough, and want to show off. One of the biggest complaints about social media is people repost a story without checking the facts, all because it sounds right (I must admit I have done this). There is One who knows all, see all and has His finger on the pulse. God! It would help to ask His opinion. This is where we do not rely on our own understanding. Amazing!

lean not

Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6 TPT https://bible.com/bible/1849/pro.3.5-6.TPT Yesterday I had my second vaccination. The day before a friend sent me a post about why the vaccine is all wrong. Why did I proceed? I have been praying that God would apprehend the government and lead them. If they have mandated it good, then I will trust the Lord that He is guiding, and using them for my good. I cannot afford to play physician, microbiologist and wise counsellor. I must trust the Lord! He said:  "whatsoever you pray, believe it when you pray and your prayers will be answered." (Matt 21:22) I must trust the avenues God has given me. Amen! If I am a Christian, then God has given me tools. He has given me His word, that is more reliable, and more powerful ...

my help comes

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! Psalms 121:2 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.121.2.NLT God's answers are best, they do not carey agendas; man's answers are always motivated by a hidden agenda. Today was freedom day for double vaccinated in NSW. Yet there were restrictions. Many are locked out of the freedom: those partially vaccinated and those unvaccinated. Church attendance has been a big one throughout the pandemic. I am grateful for online viewing. However, nothing beats flesh and blood contact. Cases continue to climb in my city and anxiety has mounted. Here, I must trust the Lord. I am grateful to be on uni break, and it is raining. A good day for reading and relaxing. All things work together for my good, all things. Amen!

my help

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! Psalms 121:2 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.121.2.NLT Help may come from people, good people, but who sends them? Help may come unexpectedly from the Lord. When God sends the help, it is the best help. It sustains, it lasts and there are no strings attached. Jesus taught us that if someone asks for our coat, give him/her more than expected. Go the extra mile. Do it without grumbling,  do it because you belong to Christ. Jesus' brother James tells us to show no partiality. He saw honour being given to the rich, whist the poor were being neglected. The odd thing about the rich is that they command presence and honour, whereas the poor disappear into the shadows. Who are the poor to you? Are you being called to be the help? Be sure to obey. Amen!

stay the distance

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jos.1.9.NLT Being strong takes work. A man builds his muscle through strain and  resistance. Habits create results. Being strong in heart comes through small steps, that lead to bigger steps, and to bigger steps.  Focus makes us strong.  If we refuse to be distracted by the tornadoes and hurricans happening on either side of us, we see the road ahead. Seeing with clarity ensures success. Believing what God says about us, knowing what He said He will do is true produces trust. Trust produces  endurance, endurance produces stability,  stability ensures we arrive at our destination. Stay the distance! Amen!

be courageous

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jos.1.9.NLT Courage is one thing we need right now. COVID has finally invaded Tamworth, my home city in Australia. We have evaded it for all of this time, almost two years. Now reality has come. The anti-vaxers will find truth, as will those who have been vaccinated. Last night I attended a fund-raising function with 160 people. It was a risk for all. Today I am at church with many others,  yet tomorrow, because I have only had one dose of the vaccine,  I become restricted until fully vaccinated. The government has place restrictions in place starting tomorrow. Amid all talk of disease and disaster we are encouraged to have courage. How can I have courage? By fixing my eyes on Jesus. This scripture was given to Joshua who believed, although he did not have the Holy Spirit dwelling within. I have an advantag...

comfort

When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. Psalms 94:19 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.94.19.NLT We love our comfort, the west more so. All advertising is pitched at making life comfortable. What COVID has shown us is we have become too comfortable and we squeal when uncomfortable. Yet, in discomfort, I can be at peace and comfortable. Too hot, too cold, too lumpy,  too soft. Sound familiar? The princess and the pea reminds me of this. Am I behaving like a spoilt princess or a warrior princess who knows she is in a battle and is happy to sleep it rough? Through my relationship with Open Doors I am hearing stories from captivity. If I am to be family with these dear folk I must lay down my ideas of comfort, and allow the Holy Spirit room. Amen!

He is Lord

“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” Revelation 4:11 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/rev.4.11.NLT All things exist because God created them. I am in an astronomy club. I am constantly reading articles about the research astronomers are conducting. Seeking the beginning of creation is always an important research point. Being willing to say that there is a God, is another matter. How proud we are when we refuse to acknowledge our smallness and the greatness of God. By denying God as creator, we prop up our own self-worth. It is laughable! All knees will bow, above the earth, on the earth and under the earth. Jesus is Lord! Whether we like it or not. Amen!

it pleased Him

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory, honor, and power, for you created all things, and for your pleasure they were created and exist.” Revelation 4:11 TPT https://bible.com/bible/1849/rev.4.11.TPT We might sing these words, however this is the song sung in heaven by 24 elders who sit on thrones around the throne room surrounding the Lord. There are four living beasts before the throne and they say: "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was, who is, and who is coming." At this the elders throw down their crowns and worship the Lord and respond with the above scripture. We might like to contain the Lord and keep Him on the shelf, or near our bible, and bring Him out once, maybe twice a day. The above picture is one where God rules. We were created for His pleasure, not vice versa. We have children for our pleasure. In childhood they are dependant on us. As they mature, they leave home and go their own way. Sometimes that way is far away from us, sometimes it...

deep loving

“So this is my command: Love each other deeply, as much as I have loved you. John 15:12 TPT https://bible.com/bible/1849/jhn.15.12.TPT Deep love! This is a term many young people may search for, at least they did in the 80s. I have young relatives who stumble from one relationship to another, without too much concern. A few days ago I decided to watch a seemingly innocent show about the FBI chasing villains. One of the main characters is a married man, faithful to his wife and abiding with a quest for justice, not revenge. The other main character is a handsome young man stumbling from one relationship ship to another. He almost found the right person and planned to marry and settle down, but she was murdered. So now he is back to stumbling and searching.  A kiss turns into a romp without a blink of an eye. Sexual attraction is not love. Love takes longer to establish, it is deeper and carries committment.  Friendship also carries committment. We are too quick to say a person ...

loving

This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. John 15:12 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jhn.15.12.NLT Do we know how God loves us? What do we know? 'For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son into the world, that whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn it, but that the world might be saved through Him.' (John 3:16-18) That is a good start! We would need to conduct a word study on love to discover the entirely of all the Bible says about the Love of God. God does not condemn, we do, and do it well. The accuser does and he fuels us with offense and accusations to fling at each other. Paul tells us the attributes of love: it is patient, kind, long-suffering, it does not envy, it is not boastful, not selfish, not easily provoked, it rejoices in truth, does not keep a record of wrongs. Love believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. Amen!

teach amd counsel

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. Colossians 3:16 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/col.3.16.NLT We have much training on the art of counselling today, all manner of degrees in psychology and counselling. Yet, this scripture tells us to use the word of God to counsel. The best form of counselling I have ever had is Holy Spirit based counselling where the Holy Spirit is invited to come and speak to the one in need. The counsellor helps the counsellee to locate the presence of God, then to listen to what He is saying. After all the Holy Spirit knows us intimately. Amen!

richness

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. Colossians 3:16 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/col.3.16.NLT The word of God is rich with the fullness of God. As we journey though it we discover new aspects of God, tucked away in obscure places. If we embrace the treasure it, in turn, enriches our lives with a deeper knowledge about Jesus. Throughout the Old Testament there is a golden thread which explodes at times into the magnificence of Jesus in all His glory. One such place is in the book of Daniel. Daniel saw the Jesus John saw in the book of Revelation. The vision blew him away. May we go hunting in the word for God’s glory. Amen!

confession

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jas.5.16.NLT Confessing my sins to God is one thing, confessing my sins to a brother or sister is another. We don't seem to do much of this anymore. Maybe I should change that, starting with me. If the Lord is coming back for a bride dressed in white, that speaks of a pure bride,  we cannot afford to have hidden sin and attitudes. We have become so good at hiding our true feelings and attitudes. Time to change. The above scripture carries a promise. Confess you sins and pray for each other so that you may be healed. What a benefit! Let's find this way to healing! Amen!

keeping our eyes

Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. Romans 15:4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/rom.15.4.NLT   Waiting patiently! One thing Covid lockdowns has tested is patience. In, out, in, out, in, out, and on it goes. Today I spoke to my son in Brisbane. He said, "Looks like we are back in lockdown tonight, time to go camping." For some this is a possibility, yet in NSW the options for camping are shrinking as more site are infected. QlD is fortunate in that the infection there is limited to mainly Brisbane. That leaves a large area available, a large, beautiful, coastal area. WA and SA are similar as is Tasmania. NSW and Victoria are caught in disease. So, how do us left behind cope without resentment, jealousy or envy? By keeping our eyes away from all that will make us inflamed and seeking the One who keeps us safe. Amen!

scripture gives us hope

Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. Romans 15:4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/rom.15.4.NLT What was written? The previous verse tells us: 'the insults of those who have insulted You have fallen on me', and are taken from Psalm 69:9. How does this help us? Jesus bore the insults and hostility that people had against God. He was our sacrifice. Do you live in a world hostile to the gospel? Yes? So did your saviour. Are you persecuted for your faith,  you walk, your words? So was Jesus. As we wait patiently for God, let us cling to Christ who has gone before us, and in whom we can hope. Patience is not easy, it is a sacrifice. Amen!

living in the light

But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.1.7.NLT Light is so good.  Today having the word of God pierce through bone and narrow, right through to my heart, was good. I had tears of repentance and knew my God cleansed my soul. Jesus said, You are already clean from the word I have spoken to you. His word cleanses us. Amen! Read the word, let it in. Make a habit of reading and absorbing the word of God! Live it, love it! Amen!

walking in the light

But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1jn.1.7.NLT Walking in the light, means walking without shadows or secrets. What you see is what you get senario. Today I am convicted of this. With COVID and so many lockdowns we can easily embrace attitudes, and ways of thinking that are not in the light. Jesus said: "I only do what I see my Father doing." If we are in doubt about an idea, bring it into the light, discuss it with someone who is walking in the light. What do they think? Don't discuss it with someone who might agree with us.  Today is a good day to find someone who is walking in the light. They usually are in church. Amen!

alone?

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. Ecclesiastes 4:9 NL https://bible.com/bible/116/ecc.4.9.NLT I live alone and have done so much on my own, it has been hard, but my God is with me. I have made a point of reaching out when in need of company mostly it is to the Lord, other times to friends,  rarely to family. Today I am exhausted from study. I am having to facilitate a presentation at the astronomy club tonight. I could do without it, but I am making friends. My last exam is on Monday. Yes!!! Priase God Sunday is a day of rest!!!

together

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. Ecclesiastes 4:9 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/ecc.4.9.NLT I am very much aware that I as an individual can become deceived, picked off by my enemy the devil. However, I also know that as I surround myself with others who are strong in the Lord, and allow them into my life, I am safe. I have a travelling buddy who is the most unlikely person. He is a confirmed bachelor who has very strong opinions. Yet, God has given this man to me to travel and work with in Nepal and now perhaps China. When I have a serious need, my God will often use this man. I have to trust the Lord that He knows what He is doing. Travelling alone in Nepal is not good. When I am there I also link up with a Christian organisation who does what I do, reach out to the lost. At home I belong to a church and a weekly bible study group. Alone we can develop all manner of opinions and attitudes which are not correct. Yet together we rub off the ro...

stand firm

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love. 1 Corinthians 16:13‭-‬14 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1co.16.13-14.NLT Standing firm means not wavering. This means we refuse to be swayed by opinion, shock or interference. Today NSW received another shock. Our premier had to resign amidst an investigation into her connection with a man who appears to have conducted fraudulent business transactions. If the premier is not guilty, she will still face a hard time. How we she weather the storm? How will we, her constituents? All face another roadblock on the path to freedom from disasters. For the Christian there are many such roadblocks. One prominent public figure has been sued because of a comment he made that was taken to be offensive. Tough times when comments land us in court. A lot more of this is now happening in Australia. We should be prepared. Amen

on guard

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1co.16.13.NLT "On guard!" Is something said by fencers before a duel. We must be alert to the tactics of our enemy the devil, his job is to deceive even the elect (that's us). We also must be on guard with our own hearts, for this is where deception takes root, we must guard our minds for this is the doorway of deception. We must know the signs of deception, pride is a good indicator,  as is self-righteousness. If we find we are judging our fellow believers for not being spiritual enough, the problem is us. Humility help us correct our error, it destroys pride.  Amen!
