Communion

For I received from the Lord what I also pass on to you. On the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and said, "This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in remembers de of Me."
In the same way, after supper He also took the cup and said, "This cup is the new covenant established in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in rememberance of Me."
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. 1 Cor 11:23-26

In the previous verses Paul was admonishing the Corinthians for their fleshly behaviour around communion. He brings them to the simple, pure truth that communion entails: Christ's sacrifice and the symbolic act of communion.

As I read this, after wading through Paul's correction of the Corinthian's behaviour, I am so grateful for the peace and grace these scriptures represent.

Paul points to a time when Jesus teaches His disciples how to remember His sacrifice. His blood was the beginning of the New Covenant. How grateful am I! Thank you Jesus, as we approach Christmas and the coming of Christ, these scriptures tell me why He came. He gave His precious life for my freedom and I remember His sacrifice every time I partake of communion. Amen!
