Walking in the Spirit

Now concerning what comes from the Spirit: brothers, I do not want you to be unaware. You know that when you were pagans, you used to be led off to the idols that could not speak. Therefore I am informing you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor 12:1-3

Paul's teaching is coming into a culture that has no prior reference to God, they were pagans, they had no Godly restraints, they lived without boundaries in the lusts of the flesh. Paul is introducing Godly boundaries. Thus far he has dealt with sexual sin, unrighteous behaviour in settling disputes, factions, eating meat dedicated to idols, wrongly celebrating communion. I can just imagine how scattered these new believers were in relationship to godly truth.

Into their world comes the reality of Christ and now they are learning what having  Christ in their lives means. The Corinthians are experiencing the Spirit of God, mishandling it as well each other. What a challenge Paul has in bringing order into this chaotic world, and from a distance as well. Paul, elsewhere says that there were not many fathers, this is exactly what they need, someone to father them through infantry in Christ to maturity.

Mothers and fathers in Christ as so important or we find ourselves as adult Christians all deformed. We will end up either religious or licentious, both are equally wrong. However, the freedom Christ brings is true freedom, it is a gentle breeze, a beautiful song, a glorious sunset. Maturity in Christ is not bondage but true freedom. The freedom Christ brings carries maturity, adventure, lightness of Spirit and a smile. Mature Christians blesses all those they meet, release captives just by being in their worlds.

Be a smile in someone's world, be the breeze, the song, a blessing. Dump the baggage and walk in freedom, in Christ. Amen!
