The Power to Obey

For I am commanding you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commands, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and multiply, and the Lord your God may bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
Deuteronomy 30:16 HCSB

Moses is handing over the reigns to Joshua as the children of Israel prepare to go into the Promised Land. The above scripture is a part of his farewell speech. Moses is reminding the people of the Commandments, especially the first Commandment to love the Lord their God above all else.

When Jesus was preparing to depart the earth He also made a speech, we see this in Matthew:

Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18‭-‬20 HCSB

However in Acts 1 His very final words were:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 HCSB

In Deuteronomy the people were expected to do the overcoming and stay faithful out of their own reserves. In the New Testament they were promised the power of the Holy Spirit to do the work. A big difference! We have the power of the Holy Spirit who enables, comforts and directs us. We are blessed indeed! Go in this power today! Welcome Him in! Amen!
