Defeat the Enemies of Your Soul

“When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, and He drives out many nations before you — the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and powerful than you — and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you and you defeat them, you must completely destroy them. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.

The children of Israel had to defeat the inhabitants of the land they were given. Thry were to show no mercy and completely destroy them. This they did not completely do and so entered a time of uncleanness before their God as they began to make room for the people who worshipped foreign gods.

Each of the tribes above represent enemies we must face in ourselves: fear, shame, depression, deception, pride, laziness, unbelief. We are to completely rid ourselves of them and not make friends with them. We cannot claim them as a special part of us, entering into idolatry.

The Father wants us like His Son who, although tempted, resisted sin. Jesus refused to make room for sin in His life. By His grace we can also defeat these enemies of our souls. Amen!
