Wise Walking

Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.
Psalms 90:12 HCSB

What does it mean to number our days? When my dad was 69 he was told he was dying of cancer. He was upset and I said to him: "dad the bible only offers us three score amd ten( that is seventy)". He looked at me and said: "That will do me." Dad lived to just under this age and was happy to go. However he knew how many days he had left and then had to determine to live them well.

We cannot squander our time, it is precious and must be used well. We are each given an allotment and God wants each of us to use it wisely. What would He have us do with our time?

Yesterday I was unwell and I wanted to mow the lawn, yet it was very hot. I gave my body rest until 7pm then I went out and mowed. It was hard to rest but I knew I must. The challenge in using our time wisely is also taking rest when we need it and knowing when to push through. Today I am grateful I rested.

In Ephesians Paul says:

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk — not as unwise people but as wise — making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Ephesians 5:15‭-‬17

We cannot afford to give ourselves to foolishness, for as Paul says: " the days are evil." When we belong to Christ we cannot afford drunken revelling and gluttonous feasts. These are things of the world. Rather we should seek Him for His way. What would He do? We know He went to feasts and parties, how did He behave? He was a blessing. How can I be a blessing?

As we plan 2019 let us not fall into it but rather use our time wisely. We are messengers, we have a message of life. Let's give it away freely. Amen
