Rest

“On the seventh day God was finished with his work which he had made, so he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. God blessed the seventh day and separated it as holy; because on that day God rested from all his work which he had created, so that it itself could produce. (A: iv, S: ii)”
‭‭B'resheet (Gen)‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭CJB‬‬

Today is the day the west considers the seventh day, Sunday. However, here in Nepal it is the first day and a work day. Yesterday was the rest day.

The New Tesrament speak a little about the Sabbath (rest day). Jesus was continually confronted about the behaviour of Himself and His disciples on the Sabbath. In Mark 2:27 He said:
“Then He told them, “The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
‭‭
The apostle Paul said:
“One person considers one day to be above another day. Someone else considers every day to be the same. Each one must be fully convinced in his own mind. Whoever observes the day, observes it for the honor of the Lord. Whoever eats, eats for the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; and whoever does not eat, it is for the Lord that he does not eat it, yet he thanks God. For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭14‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

We belong to the Lord and if we observe Sunday as a rest day we do it to honour the Lord. It is no longer a legal requirement, however, honouring it carries benefits for us. We rest.

Hebrews talk of a greater rest:

“And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭HCSB‬‬
The Christian can abide in rest irregardless of the day. We rest from our striving. We rest in the finished work of the cross. We enter into rest through belief in the finished work of the cross. However, it is good to have a day of rest from our labour. The above passage was talking about the children of Israel under Moses.

Enjoy the day as you worship the Lord! Amen!
