What Temptation Does For Us

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape so that you are able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 HCSB

Temptation again! The Lord's Prayer requests God to: 'lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.' James tells us where temptation comes from:

No one undergoing a trial should say, “I am being tempted by God.” For God is not tempted by evil, and He Himself doesn’t tempt anyone. But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
James 1:13‭-‬15 HCSB

So, when we enter temptation we can, instead of yielding, stand firm and look for an opportunity to yield that part of us that is struggling, to the Holy Spirit. The whole experience is much like going to the gym: after going for the first time you will hurt bad in certain places. This shows you your weaknesses and where to concentrate your efforts. To leave and not return is one option, but why did you go in the first place? What was the ultimate goal?

Why did you come to Christ? If it was a purely selfish reason, then temptation may take you out. However, if you want to know Him and are held by love for Him, nothing can snatch you away. Falling in love and being committed will hold you as long as you work on your relationship and allow commitment to mould you. Amen!
