Righteousness and Faithful Love
The one who loves pleasure will become a poor man; whoever loves wine and oil will not get rich. The one who pursues righteousness and faithful love will find life, righteousness, and honor.
Proverbs 21:17, 21 HCSB
Pleasure is good, if it comes from righteousness. King David sought pleasure and took a man's life to cover his sin. Each of us may seek a pleasure in relief for hard work. Many Australians see pleasure as their right for hard work. They love their alcohol. However alcohol lowers resistance to a behaviour that is not acceptable in the light of day, in fact it destroys relationships and families.
To protect ourselves from destruction we need to create habits that protect us. Instead of a 'few beers' there will need to be a new habit. Myself I would not struggle with tea but I am sure my male counterparts may. However it is not impossible. Why do we need to turn to alcohol or gambling to relax. All we have done is create a habit.
Wine and oil represent consumption. They also can represent an idol of we refuse to give them up for others or God. A relationship with God and others is more important than our stomachs.
Therefore, what is it that represents righteousness and faithful love? Pursue These things! Amen!
