Why is There Difficult Times?

But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people!
2 Timothy 3:1‭-‬5 HCSB

What stands out to you in this passage? Sure it describes our current world status but what really hits you? What hits me are the words: "Avoid such people!"

Paul tells us difficult times will come, but why will they be difficult? Because mankind will love itself rather than God.

Our world as we know it is blowing apart as the fabric disintegrates. If what holds all things together is rejected then that glue leaves us to our own devices. What a mess we make without Him!

So.... to have the command to 'avoid such people', we can't be those people in the first place. Paul is writing this letter to Timothy who is 'all in' to the gospel. Therefore, this injunction applies to him.

May we learn from this!
