Chosen

“For God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.” So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭9‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ My God chose me from the 1500 people who lived in Bingara, NSW. The eldest child of a nobody family living its life in rural NSW, Australia. I was 4 when I first encountered his call, a visitation in the night of God’s messenger who marked me with a passion for Jesus. Why me? I have only a chance idea that my great grandmother may have prayed for me, for she alone knew Jesus, personally. My mother’s family were all non-believers. My father and his siblings grew up in Catholicism, but this was not their history, their forebears were Anglican. I am currently in a nowhere town in rural Nepal sensing God’s hand on a group of young children, a young man who serves them, and their children’s home parents. God has brought me here for a purpose. He has a plan and I want to...

The law

“The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.” Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬ We can come to view the Law of God as a task master, however Paul tells us it is good and holy: “But still, the law itself is holy, and its commands are holy and right and good.” Romans‬ ‭7‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Jesus summaries the Law as:  ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew‬ ‭22‬:‭37‬-‭39‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Jesus taught that the Law was deeper, He said  “You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ But I say, if you are even angry with someo...

The point

“So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God.” Romans‬ ‭7‬:‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬ This verse can be confusing, as we still adhere to the laws of the land; we still obey our God and His ways. However, we do not live to just be a law-abider, we live in faith for what Jesus has won for us. Keeping the law will not make us holy, He did that. Our relationship with Him is what matters. He is not only our saviour, He is our friend and lover. Our good deeds are a result of that relationship. Yesterday, my friend Chelle and I travelled for 14 hours over a landslide deveststed terrain in a Jeep. My deriere attests to the journey, it is bruised and sore. Twice we stopped to allow excavators to clear the road. Huge boulders sat proudly on our thoroughfare, causing the excavator to create a path around it for the traff...

No longer slaves

“We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬-‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬ We are free from sin’s hold. We do not need to submit to our fleshly reactions ans appetites anymore. Jesus died for sin, once and for all times. Our sin was nailed on the cross. We do not need to lives as if it is in control. Not only have we died with Christ we have been raised with Him. His victory over sin and death is ours by faith. I do not need to sweat or struggle anymore. Praise Him! Today my friend Chelle and I travel in a keep all day up through the midlands of western Nepal. Our trip will take two days. Both of us went to bed with an upset stom...

Made right

“Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.” Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬ If we walk in faith for what Jesus has done for us then we are at peace. No condemning or critical judgement made against us will stand. We have been acquitted and stand in a glorious robe that glows and exudes peace with God. This robe is the robe of righteousness that Jesus gives us as we enter the door (He is the door). Nothing the accuser throws at us will be heard in heaven. We can flick it off! If God is happy, we should be happy. He has made us right with Him. Now, to walk with Him! Today an American friend of mine called Chelle and I embark on a journey up into the highlands here in Nepal. We go bearing gifts for children but also plan to...

Faith alone

“But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.” Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬ ““Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.” Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Abraham figures heavily in this chapter; and David’s Psalm 32:1,2 are used I. Verse 7,8 of Romans chapter 4. Abraham lived before the Law and David lived inside the Law. Abraham is therefore the Father of faith as he walked with God in faith. Although circumcision was given to Abraham as a sign of the covenant between him and God, he did not know the Law, this came through Moses. David was after Moses. In verse 9, chapter 4 of Romans, Paul says ‘faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness’. Abraham is an example to us Gentiles. Abraham was called by God out of Iraq as his chosen ‘father of a multitude’. When he was called he was 75 and did not have the promise...

The lamb

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭NLT‬‬ “Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law.” Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭27‬-‭28‬ ‭NLT‬‬ I can say that obeying the law did not free me from the uncleaness I felt within; however, accepting Jesus as my saviour and way to freedom did. I could not earn my salvation, I still cannot, even though I constantly feel obligated to try. I keep falling back down from the wall of self-righteousness to repentance and belief that Jesus was and is enough. Only Jesus is pure and undefiled. There is no pride in Him. He said, ‘learn from Me for I am meek and humble of heart’ (Matt 11:29). We who are pr...

The alternative

“Do the riches of his extraordinary kindness make you take him for granted and despise him? Haven’t you experienced how kind and understanding he has been to you? Don’t mistake his tolerance for acceptance. Do you realize that all the wealth of his extravagant kindness is meant to melt your heart and lead you into repentance?” Romans‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬ ‭TPT‬‬ This chapter is written to Jews in Rome. Paul is scathing in his attack on their self-righteousness. This reminds me of what it was like to be a Catholic. We believed we were right with God because we were Catholics. This chapter dismantles such arrogance. Self-righteousness slaps Jesus in the face and rejects His sacrifice as not enough. How dare we assume our own righteousness can be acceptable to God. If we live by the Law then we are judged by the perfect law, not our own. The law reveals sin.  Without Jesus’ sacrifice we are under the wrath of God’s judgement. I do not want that option. I, rather, want the deliverance Jesus gave me...

Clothed

“This gospel unveils a continual revelation of God’s righteousness—a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith, to the power of living by faith. This is what the Scripture means when it says: “We are right with God through life-giving faith!”  Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬ ‭TPT‬‬ We all crave righteousness, we either manufacture our own or walk in faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross. It is so easy to stoop to manufacture, as our old sin nature would love this; it enables sin to stay alive in our lives. Accepting death to sin and the sin nature requires faith in Jesus and a willingness to yield our lusts and greed to the cross. We have so entrenched our lusts around food and drink we are reluctant to part with them. We boast about our love and addiction to coffee, to various foods, this further entrenches them. We boast about our addictions to shoes and handbags, clothes. Our houses bulge with the accumulation of our greed. One b...

Free

“He himself carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we would be dead to sin and live for righteousness. Our instant healing flowed from his wounding.” 1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭24‬ ‭TPT‬‬ For us mortals the sin nature is the problem. Whilst, for us who believe Jesus is our saviour, the legal truth is sin was defeated by Jesus, nonetheless, we battle with sin in our flesh wanting resurrection, daily. Why does this happen? Because we foolishly believe it is up to me to be holy. Wrong! It is faith in what Jesus has done that makes us holy; He imputes His holiness to us. We must live by faith in the finished work of the cross, this is called walking in the Spirit. We do not need to defeat sin, it has already been done, we need to walk in trust and faith that Jesus did the work for us. Jesus took on sin and paid the penalty for that sin, He died, however, when He rose again He defeated the power of sin. Sin has no dominion over me unless I give it authority to do so. What does Romans 5:1 say?...

Life-giving

“This gospel unveils a continual revelation of God’s righteousness—a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith, to the power of living by faith. This is what the Scripture means when it says: “We are right with God through life-giving faith!” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬ ‭TPT‬‬ Continual catches me. It was not just a once off righteousness given to me, it is a continual, ever flowing stream. Thank You Jesus! It was a perfect righteousness! Yes! No flaws as in my own righteousness.  Next it moves us from just receiving life through faith, to the power of living by faith. In other words, this righteousness Jesus gave us is full of power, just as His word is full of power. Hebrews 4:12 tells us:  “For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, like a two-mouthed sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secre...

What do I crave?

“How enriched you are when you crave righteousness! For you will be satisfied.” Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬ ‭TPT‬‬ These are Jesus’ words from His sermon on the mount. I do crave righteousness. However, I stoop to self-righteousness. Why do I do this? I find in myself a pride that is wrong. Pride is what caused Satan to fall. Pride will cause me to fall if I allow it room to rule. I also find myself being judgemental against my fellow Christians when they frustrate me (usually when I am trying to bring something to pass in my own strength). Like Paul I must cry out: ‘what a wretched woman I am, who will deliver me from this body of sin? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So, then, with my mind I myself am a slave to the law of God, but my flesh, to the law of sin.’ (Romans 7:24,25 HCAB) Paul also wrote: ‘none is righteous no not one’(Roman’s 3:10). Paul is repeating David’s words here from Psalm 14:1. David knew this truth and spoke prophetically about the coming saviour. The answer to my...

Tithing

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” Malachi‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Some say, ‘yes but that was the Old Testament, we now live under the New Testament.’ However, they forget that Abraham existed before the law and he, it seems, initiated the tithe. He gave 10% of his war winnings to Melchizedek, the High Priest of God. We also need to be reminded that Jesus said: “Indeed, I assure you, as long as heaven and earth endure, not even the smallest detail of the Law will be done away with until its purpose is complete.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭18‬ ‭TPT‬‬ The purpose of the law is to bring conviction of sin. Sin is still rampant. I don’t see the law disappearing any time soon. So, anyone want abundant blessing? Tithe in faith! Watch God honour His word. Amen!

Doing my bit

“Put into practice the example of all that you have heard from me or seen in my life and the God of peace will be with you in all things.” Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭9‬ ‭TPT‬‬ As I read this I ask myself, ‘who’s life can I copy?’ I cannot copy anyone I know back in Australia; I do not know people in Nepal well enough to copy them; I am drawn to Jesus and perhaps Paul however, Jesus I have studied the most. Preachers I listen to, BillJohnson mostly,  have their own cultural ways and preferences that I do not share, but one thing I do share is my love for Jesus. I am encouraged in this. Who will follow me? I am responsible for being an example to my children and grandchildren; those the Lord gives me to disciple; those I encounter as I share Jesus. I cannot live for selfish reasons and ambitions. I am a witness for what Jesus can do in a person. Jesus laid down His eternal position to live amongst sinful man, He taught a new way of understanding of the Father and His ways; He gave His life on...

Oh come

“The Lord is close to all whose hearts are crushed by pain, and he is always ready to restore the repentant one.” Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭18‬ ‭TPT‬‬ How good God is towards the repentant. I experienced the joy of watching hundreds stream to the front after hearing Todd White preach in Brisbane Australia. I spoke to a homeless man who had been baptised in freezing rain that night, he glowed. He was home! He had run so far away from God and now he was back with his father. Daily I receive reports from Daniel Kolenda in Ethiopia. The last report said that the whole crowd kneeled in the mud in surrender to Jesus. There are no guns making them kneel, they knelt in free abandon. I remember my own conversion with fondness. Jesus paid it all, He is enough. He is the restorer of our pityful lives to the Fsther. He is the best! Amen! https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=4zBC3SKOP_o&si=xJSgUdA4y646L5v4

The best gift

“And what is God’s “living message”? It is the revelation of faith for salvation, which is the message that we preach. For if you publicly declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will experience salvation.” Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬ ‭TPT‬‬ There are two actions here: confess with our mouths ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in our hearts that ‘God raised Him from the dead’. When we confess with our mouths ‘Jesus is Lord’ we agree that He is the Christ and we also agree He is God. This is the start of our understanding of the two natures of Jesus (Holman’s Study Bible footnotes- as articulated in Council of Chalcedon 451AD). When I became born again I could not stop sharing what Jesus had done for me. My heart was full of gratitude and joy. His beauty so consumed me I overflowed with joy, I had to tell people why I was so joyous. I wanted to be with people who had the same joy and together praised Jesus, and then went out to share Him...

His way

“Then I heard the Lord saying, “Whom should I send to my people? Who will go to represent us?” I spoke up and said, “I will be the one. Send me.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭6‬:‭8‬ ‭TPT‬‬ Well today is my first day back in Nepal. Had my good friend Chelle come to visit, we shared Jesus and caught up. Now having coffee and carrot cake. Almost everything is shut in Nepal for Dashain, except my supermarket and my coffee shop, praise God, and the internet. So honoured to be back and to follow my Lord. He has the best appointments for me. Looking forward to all He has and does! Love you Jesus!

Every plan

“Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself. Then every plan you make will succeed.” Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭3‬ ‭TPT‬‬ Yesterday brought shocks, financially. My children insisted I buy medical insurance while in Nepal. A year’s premium is $1,150. I was left to pay for the premium myself. Last night I discovered that I did not have a confirmed ticket on the plane this morning. Another $251. Today I hope to take excess baggage with me on my flights, books for Nepali children. What can I do but trust the Lord? Father I ask for the finance for this in Jesus’ name! Amen! Last night as I waited for the airline to respond on the phone I knew I had to trust the Lord. When I got through (20 minutes later) I was told to contact the booking agent. Fortunately they were prompt and very helpful. Today as I look to book excess baggage I pray for grace. Amen!

The thief

“A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect —life in its fullness until you overflow!” John‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ ‭TPT‬‬ Satan wants to destroy people, we are inadvertently tools of destruction when we speak ill of others. I am currently reading Romans and yesterday was arrested by the scripture:    “For God in heaven unveils his holy anger breaking forth against every form of sin, both toward ungodliness that lives in hearts and evil actions. For the wickedness of humanity deliberately smothers the truth and keeps people from acknowledging the truth about God.” Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭18‬ ‭TPT‬‬ My study Bible uses the word’unrighteousness’ instead of wickedness. When we read this verse we can assume that it talks about people outside of the church. However, if we speak God’s word or ways coloured by our own sin we are suppressing the truth by our own wickrdnesd or unrighteousness. We all l...

Eternal life

“Yes, God raised Jesus to life! And since God’s Spirit of Resurrection lives in you, he will also raise your dying body to life by the same Spirit that breathes life into you!” Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭11‬ ‭TPT‬‬ This body of mine needs new life in Jesus! As I age more things need Jesus’ new life. Yesterday I met with a cousin and talked about Jesus and her need to be where her spirit is fed. I’ve given two friends the task of following her up, she needs, desperately, what they feed on, spiritual food! Today I take my old friend to a small town in the hills to visit a relative of hers. I am keen to see what God would have me do. He, and only He, gives life, external life! Amen!

Drink deeply

“Drink deeply of the pleasures of this God. Experience for yourself the joyous mercies he gives to all who turn to hide themselves in him.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭8‬ ‭TPT‬‬ Some versions of the Bible write ‘taste and see’ that the Lors is good. However the root word ‘see’ is taken from a word that means to drink deeply. The Passion Translation writes it beautifully. The Lord is good and His mercies endures forever. Amen! I need to hide in Him, when pain comes; when attacks come; when disasters come. He is a safe place, a well-watered place, a restful place, a green pasture place. Amen! I am enjoying spring in Australia. I am grateful for the reprieve. I return to Nepal on Friday where debris and dirt will welcome me. The floods causes much damage. Fortunately my home is safe but the roads are a mess. By God’s grace I will be a blessing! Amen! https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=dQdfs5S6jyA&si=mTPx1TWncedlshXL

What plans

“A person may have many ideas concerning God’s plan for his life, but only the designs of God’s purpose will succeed in the end.” Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ ‭TPT‬‬ God’s plans are trustworthy and true; my plans may fail. If it is a God Idea, it will prosper; if the idea is even tainted with worldly ideas they will fail. Yesterday two things happened: I met with a sheep farmer to discuss how to bring merino sheep to Nepal and later I received word that an American friend is returning to USA after failing in her bid to obtain a student visa. This friend could not say why she was in Nepal and did not want to learn the language. She believed God wanted her there, but beyond that had no idea. The Lord has given me a crazy project: sheep farming. Realistically this is to create industry and bring excellent meat and wool to Nepal. I have a Christian farmer here in Australia working with me. He will supply and train the Nepalis. I am just the middle woman who is crazy enough to take a jump. Meanwhile...

Spirit control

“If the Spirit is the source of our life, we must also allow the Spirit to direct every aspect of our lives.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭25‬ ‭TPT‬‬ I have just finished reading a David Wilkinson book written in 1995. More of Jesus was its thrust. He dealt with the spirit of the age and the need to be holy unto the Lord. Being back in Australia and staying with two different friends, I see the spirit of the age at work. I went for a walk with the current friend and could tell that all the inhabitants were inside in front of their TVs. There is nothing but worldly rubbish on the TVs. There seems to be a compulsion to buy more junk to fill houses already overflowing with stuff they do not need, which turns into rubbish for family to move and remove. Unbelief is a big problem. Faith is lacking and desperately needed. The source of faith is: Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God (Romans 10:19). The Bible needs to be read. If we allow the Spirit to direct and control our lives we walk in...

Living Sacrifice

“Keep in mind that we who belong to Jesus Christ have already experienced crucifixion. For everything connected with our self-life was put to death on the cross and crucified with Messiah.” Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭24‬ ‭TPT‬‬ This means dying to the ‘right’ to be offended, to retaliate, be angry and vindictive. It does not mean we become door mats, we can make a gracious stand for righteousness. It means that when nasty thoughts about others come, we do not entertain them, we rebuke them. We pray God’s blessing on others. Our appetites, we put to death. If we lust after clothes and shoes, if we lust after various foods and entertainments, these must die. It is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me. Amen https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=mfpCMSoPNp0&si=ApFlT7PPOyXriGLq

Fruit

“But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.” Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭TPT‬‬ Last night I heard from a fellow Aussie friend serving in Nepal. He is trying to raise funds to feed 200/day of flood victims. This friend has struggled to walk in the Apirit and now is flying. I am so proud of him! For the longest time he was bound in depression and deception but now he is free. The Hoky Spirit, when given free reign in our lives, produced the most lovely fruit. This fruit is tasty to the lost. They can taste and see how good our God is. Last night I spent time talking to a dear old friend who claims to be an agnostic. I told Him about my lovely Jesus. I pray Jesus is revealed to him as he wil...

Pure hearts

“God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.” Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬ ““What bliss you experience when your heart is pure! For then your eyes will open to see more and more of God.” Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭TPT‬‬ I, personally like the Passion Translation.  Right now I have determined to be single in focus, that is, laying down secular entertainment and only reading Christian literature. My heart wakes every morning with a new song to the Lord. Joy fills my heart and lightens my steps. My Jesus is guiding me and showing me His glory. Gratitude fills my heart, I am grateful for all He has done and is doing. I am released to give to His passions.  Yesterday, I went to a secondhand bookstore And asked if they would send books to Nepal for me. They said yes! I have a vision of creating a library for my neighbourhood children. I pray this will open a door into their lives to share Jesus. Amen Lord Jesus!

All my heart

“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭TPT‬‬ There are many pulls on my heart. Many in Nepal expect my heart to be theirs. Because I am an a Australian it is expected that I will do what they want and fulfill their needs. However, I listen to my God and what He wants is what I do. If they both coincide then they are blessed. When I stand before my God at the end of my days I want to know my heart was His. In Australia my heart is for my grandchildren, for their future with Him. The Lord also gave me three responsibilities; an elderly friend to disciple, lost to win and family to care for. In the process He gave me a beautiful, loving friend who cares for me. I am so grateful. My first space belong to my lovely Lord Jesus. He is my all in all. Amen! https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=SrsOdDylwN0&si=Jg_1mpXJ65oODopF

Demolishing strongholds

“We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭5‬ ‭TPT‬‬ We are challenged on every front by attitudes. For me, situations in Nepal and people there who look to me to provide for their needs cause me to withdraw and harden my heart. Yet, before God I must have a soft heart, and be willing to give to what He directs. In the last few days torrential rain has caused untold damage in Nepal, many have died and much infrastructure destroyed. The needs are great. What will bring glory to God? What will bring souls into the kingdom? What is the Lord doing in these times?
